| Getting our first puppy next week! This is my first post here! My husband and I are getting a Yorkie puppy next week...we are so excited! My husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 testicular cancer, and because of the surgery and chemo, we are not able to have children. My husband is now disabled due to blood clots, and we are home all day. It has been a tough year, and my Mom also passed away at the age of 63 from a heart attack. We are very excited about our new arrival - we already have a name - Dakota, but we don't know if we are getting a male or a female yet. Any tips or suggestions are appreciated. This will be our first pet, and we are very excited. Looking forward to getting involved on this board! |

| Welcome to YT! You will love it on here, lots of good info and knowledgeable folks. Good luck with Dakota, it's a great name and works for a boy or a girl. There's nothing better than getting a Yorkie puppy!!

| Welcome to YT! It sounds like getting a yorkie puppy is a great move for you two! They really do fill a house with love. I hope Dakota is able to ease your pain and replace it with hope and love. General advice I have is to puppy proof the house (make sure all things a puppy can chew on that would be harmful to the pup are put away). They're curious little rascals. Also, make sure to research puppy food. Find something that meets your satisfaction. The forum here is really great. If you have any specific questions, you can always do a search or start a new thread and ask away! There are so many friendly members here eager to help. By the way, when you get your pup, we would love to see pictures!

| Welcome to YT Dakota is going to bring sooo much joy to your lives! I bet you and your husband are so excited! My big piece of advice would be about house-breaking (yorkies are known to be quite stubborn in this area!) - don't give up!! Lots of praise and treats when Dakota goes where he/she is meant to...and a firm 'no' and moving her to where you want her to go if you catch her in the act (but not after you find the puddle or poop because she won't understand what she's being told off for) I wish you loads and loads of luck with your new little one xxx xxx

| Hi! I feel I must warn you though......Yorkies are quiet addictive, it's hard to stop at just one. Can't wait to see pictures of your first baby.

YT Addict | and to YT. I think Dakota is a wonderful name, my terrier/Lhasa was named Dakota and she was the most wonderful dog ever. I got to share her life for 16 years and is was pure joy throughout her whole life. So again congrats, and may she/he bring you and your husband a whole bunch of joy.

| I just recently got my Kingston and he is a little over 12wks right now and just a joy. I am 25 and no kids and well he is my baby. I recently in March lost my lh mini dachshund Sophie to a immune disorder (she went so quickly) and well things just weren't the same. So I waited and grieved and had to have another small dog in the house. He goes everywhere with me/that I can take him until he completes his puppy shots. He goes to work with me etc and is just a joy |

| Thanks so much for the warm welcome! We are so excited, but also a little nervous. We were supposed to get our puppy yesterday, but the breeder wants to keep the puppy with the Mom for another week. It made me cry, as I was so excited, but I appreciate the breeder for wanting to make sure the puppy is ready to leave. I will post pics as soon as we get Dakota...the whole family (Dad, brother, and niece) is excited. We all need some joy in our lives! Thanks again, and I will be posting more questions as they come up! |
