| A "cute puppy" is a 15yr or so responsibility I think people have to realize that a cute little puppy... aw!! Turns into a ...dog!!! It's great to want a puppy but you really have to think about the 15 or so years this little one will live with you. Although no one can predict the future you really must think about all the "what if's" before you get a "cute little puppy" It just make me so mad that these "dogs" are being rehomed because of a situation that was planned. Such as having a baby. It's not fair to these little guys to be sent away to a new home. They get scared, confused. Skin babies are really cute too but they turn into toddlers, teenagers and real people you know. It a huge responsibility to own a puppy/dog. They are not disposable because you can't or don't want them anymore. How sad!!! Before you decide to get a puppy please just think about your journey with this baby. It will be a member of your family for it's entire life. It depends on you and asks nothing in return. Sorry I just get so angry at irresponsible, immature people.

Anther thing is allergies> If you or a memeber have them severely, then DO not bring home an animal, because eventually your going to have to rehome the pet. THINK FIRST, and always remember that a cat or dog is going to be a member of the family for years to come. The animal deserves to be loved, and cared for and depends on it. They are not disposable.

| I agree completely. Thank you for posting what should be obvious but too frequently isn't even considered. |

| This upsets me as well. The one that gets me is "I have to move, and I can't have pets at my apartment". I would rather be homeless than move to a place that did not accept pets. These type of people anger me

| Sometimes I think it might be good for people to spend a day with my good ol' dachshund that will turn 17 this summer before they take on a new puppy. She honks instead of barks, she's half blind and deaf, she can't go up and down the step to get outside so you have to lift her in and out to go potty. She sometimes just loses control and messes near her bed. She puts out a horrible smell the vet can't seem to fix, she has a big old tumor on her chest that almost rubs the ground, she doesn't cuddle or play anymore, she rarely leaves her bed. But just last night when we had lots of family over, she struggled out of bed and made the rounds to sniff each one, wagging her bent old tail like crazy as she recognized family that she hadn't seen in a while. She was actually smiling! So, as old as she is she still can show appreciation to those that have loved her through the years! If you just remain faithful to them, they will love you all their lives.

| I got my first yorkie at the age of 19 and she was with me for over 14 years. People get so caught up in the excitement of getting a little puppy that they fail to think ahead a few years when that puppy is in old age and needing constant care and veterinary assistance...it is a huge long term commitment not to be taken lightly...sadly too many people do.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Very true. It breaks my heart. Volunteering at a no kill shelter we get so many one sin because of moving, divorce etc. I know there are some situations where there is no other option, but seeing these poor babies when they first come in and are so scared and don't understand how they ended up here. I always take the new one out and just hold them for awhile wondering what they are thinking.

| Great posts. I hate the "I'm having a baby" thing.... the only thing I could understand is if the dog is being aggressive towards your child, the kid should come first. However - I don't like not even giving the dog a chance before the baby is even born!

We had a long chat before getting Loli. The plan was to get Loli and then eventually get her a playmate. I told my husband that I was not interested in getting any dogs at all if we were going to "re-home" them after children. He agreed with me. To us Loli is our child and I know we feel the same way about Gus even though he is not yet with us. They are part of the family wether we expand with human babies or not, weather we move or wether we stay put...no matter what! The plan is to eventually have children and move to a bigger place. This will be done with our fur-babies. They are with us "fur-ever" | |

Awwwwwww. I've been told that a lot of daschunds end up in rescues because the cute little puppy turns into a monster barker. That just makes me want to rescue one even more. I can't wait for Thor to have a doxie sis, once he is ready.

| Great post!!! When we 1st got Snickers and my husband fell head over heels in love with him, he used to ask me almost every other day What is the life expectancy of a Yorkie?" and I would say between 12 and 17 yrs or so. And he always and still says..."Wow, I don't know what we will do ever without Snick, we better live it up with him everyday..." I'm so proud of us for thinking things through before getting Snick and not just b/c he was a cute puppy. People who do not think annoy me...it's sad there are so many out there that don't!!!!!
