Angry Urrrg so upset! Need your advice!

Loli loves the dog park. We take her every weekend. She loves to run and play with all the dogs there. We have been going for quite sometime now and have never had a problem...until today.

We headed over to the "small dog section" as we normally do. Loli see's a few pugs that she is interested in. (She loves pugs! My friend has a few pugs who are her best friends!) Out of no where this dog twice as big as Loli (probably 10-12 lbs) comes rushing over. It spooked my poor girl and she started to run. My husband and I were trying to call Loli but now the other dog is full on chasing Loli while she is shreaking in horror trying to get away. We are rushing after our girl while the bigger dog has her pinned down. She was shaking in fright when by the time we got to her.

The other dog ran away while we were comforting our baby. Tears were streaming down my face as my heart was breaking watching my baby shake and wimper.

She was okay physically but was quite shaken. A couple of people who saw the whole thing play out came over to make sure Loli was alright.

All of the sudden we hear the same thing play out again except this time it was with a dog a little bit bigger than the "attacking dog!" We heard some shreaks from the dog then the dogs owner yelling and crying.

We took Loli outside the park and as we were holding and cuddeling her some more we heard the same shreeks a third time! I was very upset that this lady was letting her dog terorize every dog in the park. Although her dog did not physically hurt Loli she obviously has a problem and shouldn't be allowed in the park with out a leash...or maybe not at all.

I told my husband I was going to go talk with the lady about her dog. Just then the lady came walking up the hill with her barking dog in her arms.

She yells over to us "Is your dog okay!? Just so you know we are leaving the park!"

I didn't say anything although there was alot I wanted to say! I was upset that she let her dog stay for as long as she did!

On our way out I noticed there were all sorts of signs hanging up with the rules and regulations of the park. There were all sorts of notices posted everything from "clean up after your dog" to "leave the park by 9 PM" I didn't see anything posted about dog behaivor. I really feel like writing the city to let them know they need to post something about this.

What do you think? I would appreciate your feed back. Have you had a similal situation? I think this park is a great place to let dogs run and play but dog owners should responsible enough to know if there dog is fit to play in this kind of enviornment!

Any advice you have would be great!

I am sorry to rant and rave but I had to get all my frustration out and I knew this was a good place to do it!

So sorry to hear your baby was terrorized today. Sure glad she's okay. Some people don't care anything about others just themselves. That dog should be on a leash always. Poor baby.

Thank you. She is now cuddled up on my lab taking a nap. I have been cuddling her and showing her with kisses. I just hope this doesn't ruin the dog park experience for her!

Thanks for your kind words.

We had a very similar experience. There was a Cain terrier that was terrorizing the yorkies...morkies etc. She was chasing them and pawing at their faces...trying to wrestle them to the ground. She decided to go after my Chase but I was right there and reached down....grabbed Chase by his harness and grabbed him right away. He looked so scared. I was so angry because the Cain owner just sat there smiling saying how funny it is to watch them play. I'm sorry but it's not playing when the other dogs feel threatened and are being bullied. The signs here say that if your dog is being aggressive then you need to remove him. She didn't care at all.

Sorry! I forgot to write that I'm glad your baby is ok. It didn't ruin Chase's experience but now I stay close to him just in case I need to step in.

Thank you! She is a resilient little thing so I am sure she will be fine. It's sad that there are people out there that could care less about things like this!

I'm glad Loli is ok I take Couver to the dog park, but we do not have a 'small dog' section. He has more confidence than the biggest dog there, but I do get really scared sometimes.

While that lady should have been watching her dog more closely, I do commend her for leaving soon after. I have seen a lot of dog owners allow their dog to attack others and not think that it was their problem.

I'm sure it will not ruin Loli's feelings of the dog park. We just have to be careful and read other dogs so that nothing bad happens to our babies

I believe a little doggie mace was needed for the terror of the park One good thing was that the owner did leave, and made certain that your baby was ok. Still , her dog continued to go after other dogs as well. I am glad your baby was not hurt.

Yes, I definitely think you should report these incidents to the authorities and ask the park commissioners or what ever office that regulates dog parks to place a behavioral sign. It only makes good sense to me. The person in charge probably doesn't even own a dog.

I'm glad your baby is OK other than being shook up. She is probably enjoying the extra attention. lol

We had an incident like that with a weiner dog...it was attacking all the dogs so everyone had to leave. We were there for a few hours and then this women came along with this older dog that wanted to attack everyone. Thankfully there is a police station near by as this dog was going for blood. At the dog park we have flyers for rules and everyone is pretty good. It just takes one to ruin it...I'm not sure if we are going to take the twins, we will see.

Thanks everyone for you kind words. I also commend that lady for leaving the park although she waited for the third attack before doing so ! I guess when it comes to our babies we want to think that they are just "playing" as I am sure the lady thought her dog was doing with Loli until the third incident of the day.

I do think I am going to write a friendly little note to the Parks and Recreation Department informing them of the incident. I definitely think they will agree that a sign needs to be posted!

I took Loli on a walk a few hours ago. We came across a man who asked if he could pet Loli. I said yes and noticed she hunkered down when he went for her. She has never done this before so I figured she was still a bit shaken. I am sure it will pass. I briefly explained to the man that she had a rough day at the park when he said "Well that will teach you from taking the little rat to the big boys park!"

Kidding or not...it was not nice!

Oh well. Like I said earlier I am so happy to have a place where others understand. We are all so blessed to have these precious babies in our lives.

Thanks again!

WTF??? I don't understand people like this. It's common knowledge that small dog owners don't like to hear their babies called rats. They only use that term as a put down. So why would he ask to pet her then if he obviously is not a small dog lover?

I was quite irritated to put it lightly! I did my best zip my lips and walk the other way!

Likw I said in my post above Joking or not---it was mean. I agree it's a put-down!

I wonder if maybe this lady just rescued this dog and is still learning about its behavior. It's very unfortunate that she allowed three dogs to be terrorized, but it sounds like she did the right thing taking the dog out of the park.

I know here in SF I wouldn't say anything to the city because the mayor is trying to restrict dogs' access to a whole bunch of areas. It's ridiculous, considering how many dogs there are in the city and how most of us don't have yards. I don't know about Seattle, though.

I think it is worth a try here. Seattle is a very pet friendly area! There is a chill little bar near me where dogs are welcome! How cool is that!? I will let you know how it goes!
