YT 1000 Club Member | Scared me to death Yesterday we were next door at my sons house. The guys were working on stuff and had the tail gate of the suburban down. Roxie loves to be in there and had been napping in there. I was standing near the tailgate, my son came outside taking a break and we were just talking. There's an old shed there that's had a mama racoon and some babies in it. It was getting close to dusk and I made a comment to my son, "probably about that time of day where the raccoons come out!" My son had turned to walk out in the yard and for some reason when Roxie heard raccoon (I didn't even know she knew the word raccoon) she freaked and bolted down off of that tailgate full speed and there was nothing I could do it happened so fast. She ended up hitting her face on the ground pretty hard. Omg scared me so bad. I picked her up and her eyes were all squinty and she was shaking. My son and his g/f came over and helped check her out and after a few minutes she seemed fine. I put her down to make she was walking ok and in a matter of time she was ready to go after a rabbit. I wouldn't let her. I put her in the house for awhile after that. She did her usual begging at dinner and slept fine last night. I find myself still watching her to make sure nothing pops up. I was so ready to run her to the ER Vet. My son told me I really need to stop reading all the horror stories on here. One side of me thinks he's right but the other side thinks it makes me aware of things to look for. It really did scare me and it confirmed that if anything ever happens to her I don't know how I will ever get through it.

| They sure can scare you to death. I think it has a little to do with their small size and large attitude.

YT 1000 Club Member | lol That's for sure! She sure thinks she's keeper of all and in charge most of the time! Love her big spirit but not when she just reacts and almost kills herself!

| I think I would have felt just like you. They are such little Rambos but can get hurt so easy. I am so glad there was nothing wrong.

YT 1000 Club Member | I found myself really watching her closely all day yesterday. Just in case she'd suddenly start acting funny or something. I'm amazed and relieved that she's ok. I've had a hard time shaking the image of the incident out of my mind.

| I am so glad your little Roxie is okay! What a scare! I don't mean to add to your list of concerns, but be really careful with that raccoon around. They can be very vicious. Last year there was a raccoon family in the neighbors chimney. The mother raccoon was very large and my neighbors warned me that they have seen it running through our yard. I did a lot of reading on the net and found that they will attack dogs, and I started taking Maddie and Libby outside on a leash, rather than let them run loose in the back yard. The neighbors finally caught the raccoon in a trap and took it out in the country. I breathed a sigh of relief and once again, Maddie and Libby had their freedom in the back yard.
