| Jemma Refuses to sleep with me, ideas please? I am really sad, I really am. Jemma has slept with me since a week after I got her home. What a snuggle bug and I love it. She knows the words nitety nite and beddy bye. THEN, my 8 yr old granddaughter spent the night with me Wed. night. Jemma just cried when I took her to bed. I thought shoot, she wants with my granddaughter. So I took her puppy pen and put it near my granddaughter and she went into her little bed, laid down with her head facing my granddaughter. My granddaughter was already asleep. Last time my granddaughter went home, Jemma wouldn't eat and seemed so depressed. This time she is eating but from Wed on, she won't sleep me me now. She goes to her puppy pen and gets in her little bed and stares at me. Her puppy pen has 2 zippered doors. During the day I keep one open so she can go in and out of it if she chooses. When I go to pick her up for bed she puts her head down, a indication to me that she doesn't want to go. I won't force her and I'm not going to do something if she doesn't want too. I can't believe this but I'm finding myself getting up twice a night to go see if she wants to come to bed yet. Nope. But in the morning when I get up, she does. And here is the reason why. Every morning when I get up, Jemma moves into the spot where I slept, stretches out, legs straight ahead and legs extended out behind her, head down. Don't laugh but she got a massage every moring. Her shoulders and little neck. It is cute because when you do it you can se her little toes open and close. THAT is the only reason she wants the bed in th morning. Then she wants off the bed and the day starts. Any idea what the change could be? By now she has to see my granddaughter isn't coming back. I really miss her. I live alone and she's my little snuggle bug....was. Jemma is 6 1/2 months old. Thank you in advance for any ideas. Carol and Naughty Jemma |

| Aww. I'm not an expert, but perhaps she just decided she liked that little bit of independence. They go through "stages" just like human children. Perhaps she'll be back at some point. I think you are being a great mommy by not pushing the issue. Also, you told a lovely story of her attachment to your granddaughter. Perhaps she is just missing her. That will pass. Good luck. She sounds like a doll.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Hmmmm; not sure what the deal is. Could be the "getting more independant" idea since she is getting a little older. Is she big enough to jump on or off your bed? Not to force her back with you, but maybe you could bring her to bed with you and if she acts like she wants down (or jumps off is she is able), then let her be. Maybe she just needs to be reminded of the "routine" you two had. I presently have 3 yorkies. Only Halle is able to jump onto and off of the bed; well the boys probably could jump off, but I don't like/want them too; it's quite a jump for them. Since Halle has the ability, she has had the privilege to sleep with hubby and me. The boys have a routine where at about 2 or 3 am like clockwork, they whine or jump at the side of the bed, and are let up to sleep the rest of the night with us. Yes I know, they are all spoiled. Lately though, Halle has started to stay on the floor with the boys and only wants up when they do. I wondered at first what the reason for the change was and, right or wrong, I have concluded that it is due to the change in weather. With spring finally here, the house is warmer and I assume it's cooler for her to sleep in a bed on the floor. Good luck with getting Jemma to sleep with you again, in the meantime just enjoy the qulity time of those early morning massages. And remember, she loves you no matter where she sleeps.

| My bed is too high, she can't jump off. I would not leave her loose doing the night. She's at that stage where she'll get into too much. It's not safe and I won't chance it. I'm not gonna force her to sleep with me. I just have to stop waking up too go check her. Once she is in her puppy pen, I zip it close, she can't get out. Maybe she is liking her independence, little S&*$ I guess I'll have to go buy a stuffed Yorkie. Maybe she'll get jealous, hehe Thank you for the replies. I really appreciate them. Carol and Jemma |

| I adopted Lady at 4.5 years old so our situation is a little different, but she will not sleep in my bed. I tried and tried, but she won't do it. She prefers her little pink bed on the floor over me. It makes me sad, but I have accepted it. |

| Jackson went through this/is going through this sort of... He slept with me from 16 weeks on and at around 5 months old (he's now 7 months...) he started to want to sleep on the floor. I would kinda be like "Jackson... " and invite him back up. Sometimes, I'd go and pick him up and put him on the bed, and then he'd jump back down five minutes later. It made me sad but I got over it. Now what he does is... 95% of the time, he will fall asleep with me in the bed and then go on the floor for a bit, but around 4-5am, he hops back up with me and cuddles and gets all close to me. I'm thinking maybe he gets hot or just uncomfortable. Who knows. And some nights, he will sleep on the bed the entire night!

| I know what you mean about getting your feelings hurt: you're just fine and hunky-dorey until THEY come over, and then you're chopped liver . Well, maybe not "chopped liver": they *like* that Mine were like that when my grandson spent the weekend. Then the entire family moved back in, and now they could care less and are back sleeping with us. I have stairs at the foot of the bed; the dogs can come and go at their leisure. One will start off sleeping with us, then go to the crate some time after we're asleep. I wake up during the night, and the other one is up on the bed. Later, maybe they BOTH are on the bed - or both on the floor or in their crate. They have options. I don't force them, and that seems to work better. My husband has cancer; he doesn't sleep well and sometimes get restless after treatments. So maybe that's why they leave during the night: they don't like getting bounced around. |

Yorkie Yakker | mmm... I had the same situation with my lil girl which she is 4 months today =)... when i first brought her home she would hide in a corner and would sleep there.. I just hate her sleeping on the floor when she was able to sleep in bed with us.. after a while she notice that my other dog Bentley would sleep with us.. and finally decided to come to bed with us.. I myself would wake up lol perhaps 2-4 times a nite just to make sure she was ok...since I did not have her next to me like the other one.. and I would as well try to invite her to bed.. that it was ok for her.. I actually notice that it really helped that I stop trying for her to come to bed.. and she finally did it on her own.. from time to time she rather just stay on the floor =( but its k i guess ... i just have to be ok with that and her lil decisions that she makes.... =)

| Is it perhaps too warm? Nadia chooses to sleep on the floor in a bed I keep down there in the summer, but she will come up and visit in the AM. All winter she sleeps curled up next to me. I feel used! LOL

| Kaia used to sleep on my lap or on right next to me, during nap time on the couch. Now, she prefers she sleep directly under the couch by my feet. She still sleeps in bed with me, but she sleeps closer to the bottom of the bed. She used to sleep right up next to my head on the pillow or rest her head on my shoulder. I miss the closeness of her but I also like that I can sleep closer to my boyfriend!
