| ??Are boys smaller then girls?? I have been told that boy yorkies are normally smaller then the girls. Alot of breeders the female is 6# and the male is like 4#. Is this normal? I don't at this time have the pleasure of a yorkie. So just wanted through this out to you all and see what your little baby are like!! Thanks!! |

| Generally speaking breeders breed a smaller male to a larger female. Genetics determine the size the puppies will grow to and their sex makes no difference as far as I know.

| In regards to breeding, most breeders will usually take care to ensure the male is smaller than the female in regards to the breeding pair. That does NOT however mean that all boys are smaller than girls aside from a breeding environment. Welcome to YT! |

Welcome to yorkietalk! If your looking for a smaller than average yorkie, under 4 pounds, breeders will sell the girls that size, because they can't be used for breeding, males on the other hand, can be used for breeding in that range, but breeders generally don't need as many males. One good male can produce lots of pups.

I nearly did this too lol. My Mika is 7.5lbs at 7mths. His Mum was 5.5lbs and his Dad was 4lbs. Mika is over weight by 2lbs according to my vet. I have been feeding him to much but he has his food weighed out now.

YT 2000 Club Member | my male is bigger too. His parents are both 4 pounds and Tucker is almost 9 so no males arent always smaller. lol. I agree with what the others have said, most breeders use smaller males to breed with thier bigger females.

| Your member name really is similar to another here. If you ever see strange posts to you they are probably supposed to be for the other person. She also threatened to rejoin with a different member name so people may think you are her. Welcome! About the boy and girl sizes -- out of my current litter, the largest and the smallest of 5 were male -- the girls were all in the middle. But if you are thinking about the parents -- then yes, most breeders will try to keep their females on the larger size -- over 5 pounds and just under 7 pounds. Then they ant the male to be smaller to prevent very large pups that might be too much for the mother to carry. So, you will see the sires in the 3-5 pound range. You may see all sorts of combinations but the ones I listed are preferred by most.
