| Barking, Kind of worried.. I live in an apartment buliding, and there are a lot of "complainers" living in the building as well, make a little to much noise and they report you. So a girlfriend asked me this morning what I will do if someone reports my puppy for barking. I don't have him home with me yet, but do yorkies bark alot? I know my friends little toy poodle does..she barks at everything!! I can't expect a poor little puppy not to bark, good grief, but is there anything I can do to keep the barking at a minimum to avoid conflict with neighbors? Any suggestions I would be grateful!!

| hmm... most yorkies ive been around dont bark much at all... I had a bichon that only barked if you chased her... otherwise NOT A PEEP! (not even to tell you she wants to go outside... she would wait patiently at the door till someone noticed you, and then come and pussh you when it was time to be fed) Hahahaa Maybe depends on personality?

| Sorry to say ... they are vocal dogs They aren't as bad as poodles or maltese but they do like to bark If you're getting a new pup start from the beginning to train him or her that barking is a no-no Little pups usually don't start barking until they are 3 months old or so Get an empty can put some coins in it when she barks shake it to stop the barking and get her attention when she stops and listens to you tell her what a good girl she is and give her a treat This will ward off the barking jags they can get into

The can is a good training tool. I used it for a lot of things. But rewards are a must! | |

| Thanks, you are so helpful on here! I get Bailey in a couple of weeks..I was going to call him Dante, but changed my mind..I just ordered his tags yesterday with his name on it, so it's a keeper I will definately try the can thing if barking becomes a problem, my bf's dogs ( not yorkies) are crazy barkers, when someone knocks on the door at his house they go crazy, I get embarrassed, but he doesn't seem to mind

| Yorkies are known as yappy dogs; HOWEVER, you can train them very early on to knock it off. I started with Jackson when he was 10 weeks old. He never barked until he experienced being around my parent's dogs who are barking fools and he definitely learned from them. The good thing is, I can keep him under total control 99% of the time even if one of them is barking. When he starts, he lets out 5 or so barks and once I say "Quiet!" or "Jackson, come here!" he's pretty good at coming over to me and listening to me, even while the others are still barking. I owe that ALL to the pennies in a can trick I learned here on YT. Put some coins in an empty soda can and everytime they bark, shake it and use a word like Quiet to make them associate it with. He will still bark if someone comes in the door or the room who is a stranger, which honestly, I don't mind. But I like to be able to tell him to knock it off, this stranger is perfectly acceptable, no need for it.

| I wouldnt say Laci barks alot however she does bark at noises from outside, I too live in a complex but I have a town house, she does bark when people are comming by our house.... he may bark when he hears noises in the hall ways or keys jingeling...... or people talking in the hallway.. not that he would be a bad pup its a natural instint for a dog....

| The only time my guys bark is at night If they hear any noises they Jump out of bed and run to the front door It's a little shocking But they do this because they get startled As soon as I call them and pet them to calm them down they stop

| Hi and congrats on your new furbaby.. We now have our 5th and 6th Yorkies and they are the only ones that have been barkers. :-( the male is the worst and then the girl follows waht ever he is doing. It was great before we got him because hse was just a quiet little princess, shes still my little 3 # princess but he aggrivates her all t he time, so stop it before it ever gets started. They are 6months old now and I just ordered a no-bark collar for him, it's for little dogs, so nothing to hurt, just startle. good luck kiddo.. it's just like having a newborn at home..

| Ohhhh Baxter never made a peep at first. But my other dog Zeke taught him how to bark around 6 or 7 months old. Now Bax will bark at the trash truck two blocks away, then one block away, when it is getting our trash he is hysterical! Then comes the mailman. he barks when he sees the truck, and goes hysterical when he sees the man. Not to talk about when dogs go walking up and down the street, kids, cars lol. They both think this is their world and everything else has to bow down to them. LOL. The pennies in the can has helped tremendiously. It has made it so they are actually alot better lol

| I have a barker ! Well, my little Gunner barks at everything but mostly my husband and son. I have the pennies in the can but that just makes him bark even more! He won't hush! So, I would like to know what works cuz the can doesn't work here. Karen |
