| I have reclaimed my bed/ AGAIN Buddy is back in his own bed at night again and out of mine. He's been so good about it I really think he wanted this. He has been sleeping with me since he was about 9mos old and banned once because he tried to guard it. After six months or so he was back sleeping with me and never tried to get me out of my own bed again. However, the last three months he has been so restless at night he is using the bed as a trampoline! On, off, on, off what the heck. I could not take it anymore so as of last Fri night he's back on the floor in his own bed. Quiet as a church mouse. I was up all night with guilt but held firm. He tried twice to jump up but I made him get down then laid awake all night thinking about if this was the right thing to do. After loosing yet another night of sleep I said yes it was. It seemed to bother me more than it did him. Last night we both slept threw the night finally so I guess I'm sleeping alone from here on in. He never did this as a pup and now at 5 he decides to keep me up all night! Makes no sence to me. I think he's going backwards!~ |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Wow that must have been hard for you, I think you are right, and this is what buddy needed to feel safe. I've read a little about dogs feeling best on the floor next to the bed, but Joey's a snuggler at night and it wouldn't be easy for me to give up this part. I baby-sit for my sons' dogs, and they both are crated overnight, we watch a little TV in bed, but they are clearly happier in their own crates, after a period of time. Archie needed to know you clearly are the master, and feels the best when the lines aren't blurred. I know when raising children, what might seem too strict to a parent, is just what makes the child feel safe and protected. I guess dogs go through life stages, just as humans do.

| oh wow! I am so lucky, my boys sleep like rocks! I am so glad your new plan is working for you both though, that will be a relief to get some sleep and he is still close by and he's happy about it. Doesn't get better than that!

| I do miss his solidness cuddled up next to me. It's comforting but when a 16lb dog jumps up on the bed in the middle of the night, you know it. I just don't understand why he is not sleeping through the night anylonger. He get's up and stretches, goes underneath the bed, walks down the hall then I hear him gaining momentum for his run to clear the bed then plopp! Up and landing. It started out once, then twice then up to four times a night! Can't stand it anylonger but I miss him next to me. |

| Awwww!! I'm sure you do miss his snuggling!! We are doing something similar. Snickers is small and has been sleeping with me and my husband for the past 6 months or so. Well, hubby and I are a little smushed since Snick never wants to sleep vertical and being a good foot and few inches long, when he sleeps horizontal, we are clawing to stay on the bed on the edges ha!! What we are doing to transition him, is I have a leather storage bench and we put that along the side of the bed with his bed on it. At about 5am every morning Snick will jump in bed with us and find a spot he can be comfy in, but he seems to like his own personal space for most the night and so do we (espcially when we want alone time-hubba hubba) It's working out well...but I miss him too sometimes and will scoop him up in the middle of the night to cuddle with me before 5am

| Maybe it is a boy thing... TJ used to sleep thru the night, but the past year, he now MUST get up thru the night, either to bite his nail and pee |

I have to admit i'm lucky cause Pasquale is an excellent bed partner. There are times where i wake up and look at him and wonder "how the hek did he get there?" He'll make his way to different parts of the bed...and neither my husband nor I hear or feel him.

Thor's Human Donating Member | I'm glad you found a solution that works for both of you. I'm wondering, is it possible that he is not getting enough exercise during the day? It kind of sounds like maybe he's having a good time jumping on the bed. Maybe you need to set up an agility course in your back yard.

I wish I still had a backyard. Down sized after the last child married. I thought as a dog aged they needed less excercise? Anyhow Buddy get's walked 4x daily each for about 20-25mins. Also the playing indoors chasing balls and toys when I"m home. Believe me he get's lot's of excercise. This drastic change in his night hours I hope is only temporary. It's been about three months already but he does seem more comfortable in his own bed at this point which is so strange to me because he fought like heck to get there in the first place because I didn't want him in my bed but he wouldn't give up so he won. Now 4 1/2 yrs later he wants out. Now I want him in the bed. I guess he won again. He so confuses me. | |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I did the same thing, at one point I called him Buddy and at another point I called him Archie, I guess I'm blurring the lines between the two of them too.
