| Chicken soup warning!!! I posted already about my five Yorkies being sick and how I spoke to the owner of our local petstore (Where the product was purchased). The owner said she had three returns this week on the product, and that she contacted the company and the company said they had a formula change and asked her to send in a sample of the returns. The owner of the store also said (Which was strange) that only one case was effected. I would think if it was just a formula change and not an issue that more then one case would be effected. Here is my update: This morning I called the comapny myself. 1. They denied a formula change and when pressed about issues I found through google they also skated around it. I gave them the can number code etc. and I'm waiting for their vet tech to contact me. 2. My Yorkies seem to be getting better but still have some bloody diarhea but not nearly what they had. My vet is monitoring them and at this point it's a watch and wait. We are keeping them hydrated and they do seem fine other then the diarhea and vomiting. This by the way has been since Thursday of last week. BELOW IS What I found while researching through google and I think it's very important that people read this and realize that although this food was not on the recal list MELAMINE was found in it and another woman who also used this product had her dogs become sick with the same symptoms that my five Yorkies had. PLEASE READ AND PLEASE STOP USING THIS FOOD. More Concerns about Diamond Meanwhile, an Indiana pet owner contacted ConsumerAffairs.com on Sunday with concerns about another brand of Diamond Pet Foods. Sharen C. of La Fontaine, Indiana, says her two dogs became sick after eating Diamond’s Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul. “I normally cook for my dogs, but I wanted to supplement them with this brand,” Sharen says, adding her dogs, Cassie and Star, are Lab-mixes. “When I tried it, though, my dogs became sick. They were lethargic and had diarrhea. And this lasted for a couple days.” Sharen immediately stopped feeding the food to her dogs. When their conditions improved — about a week later — she tried giving them the food again. “But they got sick again and had the same symptoms,” she says. “So this wasn’t a coincidence. It made them sick -- twice.” Sharen contacted Diamond Pet Foods, but says the company downplayed her concerns. ”The response I got from the company were simply suggestions on how to feed my dogs.” But shortly after her call, Diamond recalled its Chicken Soup for Puppy Lover’s Soul and Chicken Soup For Kitten Lover’s Soul. The company, however, didn’t recall the brand that made Sharen’s dogs sick — Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul. “And I have no idea why they didn’t recall that brand,” she says. “It definitely made my dogs sick.” Sharen says Cassie and Star haven’t eaten that brand of food in weeks. And they’re now doing fine. Will she ever feed them another brand of commercial dog food? “No, I’m just not comfortable using commercial pet food,” Sharen says. “I cook for my dogs and my advice would be that everyone should cook for their dogs.” Diamond Pet Foods in April recalled its Chicken Soup for the Kitten Lover’s Soul and Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover’s Soul after the FDA confirmed the products contained melamine-tainted rice protein concentrate. | OMG!! That's what I feed my babies! Living in such a small rural area, I was so glad that the local feed & seed carried this brand. I know lots of others use Chicken Soup, what's everybody doing??

| Another update. While at work the company called and offered a full refund if my husband sent the cans of food back to them. My husband said to them "yeah right." and hung up. Five sick Yorkies and they'd like the food back and then they'll give us a refund. My guess is they want it back so there is no proof in our hands. Thankfully, tonight they all seem to be improving. We are still monitoring them but thus far the diarhea is abating and they are no longer vomiting and are more active. Please keep them in your thoughts. I really do not know what I'd do if I lost any of them. Elaine |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm so sorry to hear about this, I've heard so many wonderful things about this dog food, but I didn't know the Diamond Company made it. This is the main thing I don't like about commercially prepared dog food, it take so long to get a warning, and so many dogs have to be affected before the word really gets out. Wow, they will give you a refund, how about a coupon for 10 cents off? Hope your babies recover quickly.

| Nancy, I didn't realize that Diamond Food made this product either. That was my bad for not investigating more. I too had heard so many good things about it and this is why I started them on it. They've been using it for close to a year and never an issue. I can tell you that I will never use any commercial food again. I'll stick to the boiled chicken, brown rice and carrots. Unfortuantely I have not alternative for dry food but will really research and look for the safest one. Elaine |

| I have been using Nature's Recipe Homestand Selects. I have had really good results with it with my pups especially since there is no beef, wheat or corn. Allergies totally cleared up on one of them! It scares me that these companies drag their feet when it comes to notifying people of possible problems. I have one pup with tons of issues who needs a special diet...low protein and low fat which is hard to find...at least hard to find anything that is pallatable. Today I called Texas A&M and asked if they have a nutritionist. Well..they do! So, my vet called and consulted with the nutritionist there, saving me the two hour drive since he has already had ultrasounds and all down here. For $115 he is going to send me two recipes for my Cody! After reading this post, I think I might just talk with him about how I can cook all of my kids. Make my own food. This is just too scary.

| I am so sorry about your babies. This is just horrible and scares me to death. You know years ago people fed their dogs left overs and you never seen problems like we are having now. Makes you wonder???? I quit Welliness about 2or3 wks. ago because of some stuff put out about it. I'm now feeding Evo and Innovia and you don't know what to trust. |

| Update on analysis of food Just wanted to give a final update: I was back in touch with the petstore where the canned food came from and Chicken Soup got back to them with the results of the food analysis. There was a problem with the meat. Chicken Soup will not say what the problem was only that they have switch the company in which the meat came from. Although they've had returns and although dogs have become sick they will not voluntarily pull the product. To me this is irresponsible. I contacted them today again and was given the same info. that the issue was with the meat and that there would be no permanant damage. I have to disagree with this. I fed five yorkies two cans divided up among the five. ONLY TWO cans and they were sick very sick for over a week. Lethargic, Diareah and vomiting. I have to question what would have happend had I not realized that it was a food issue and had I continued to feed them this food. Think about it, two cans made five yorkies this sick. If two cans made them this sick then surely feeding them more may have killed them. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS FOOD. Elaine |
