| When they're pups, just confine them to areas where they can't reach them. When you are home and watching the pup 24/7, if you see him/her go for something wrong, quickly correct them and say NO and give them something they CAN chew on, such as a toy or a bone. They also have some kinds of bitter apple sprays you can spray on electrical cords, etc and they don't like the taste of it so it will make them less appealing.

| The bitter apple sprays work well. I only had to spray the cords once and they seemed to think all cords taste that way. No more problems. I am so glad you mentioned this because my pups just found the lamp cord today. I shoo'ed them away from it but your post reminded me what I did when Ben was little. So, I will get some more spray tomorrow and get those cords coated with it again.

| I really only have one cord that Winston would be able to get to, a lamp cord...so when he was just a pup I bought the coil that covers it. Works well and doesn't look any worse then the cord itself does.

| The spray didn't work for Gizmo. I think he actually liked it. What worked for us was something another YT member suggested...clear deodorant! You have to reapply it daily, but we didn't have to do that for long. As soon as he realized it would always taste that nasty, he stopped. Good luck, and remember...this too will pass!

However, I would also be careful if you have to use this for very long. There's all kinds of chemicals and that would worry me.

| I bought clear plastic tubing at the hardware store, slit it lengthwise down one side, then wrapped it around the cords. I then put the bitter apple on the tubing. The bitter apple has to be applied on a regular basis to keep discouraging them. If it should happen to wear off and they go after the cord, their teeth only hit plastic and not into the cord itself. After a time, mine finally lost interest in cords.

| I was just using my laptop and it all of a sudden quit working - little Elsy has just about chewed the cord in half. I am going to get some of that apple stuff they were talking about and use it. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i used bitter apple which worked great for morgan. However if that doesn't work you can also try deoderant (i was told to use solid stick kind) or you can try hot sauce. LOL that will stop them

| You can buy electric cord covers , or make the yourself .Go to home deopt, or Lowes. My Suzi did chew through my laptop cord. It was not turned on at the time. Once they hit the chewing stage , everything is fair game!

| My first Yorkie (rip) use to chew everything! She chewed on wooden chairs and our patio door grills, books, cords and I used the bitter apple. It worked for her. Fortunately, my current 2 are not chewers although Mayzie will seek and destroy. But I did have a scare with cords. Ugh! One day she didn't greet me at the door and I found her tangle up (hanging) in computer cords. So scary, her front feet were not touching the floor and her neck was tangled. I say this to caution everyone about cords--the danger is not just in the chewing.

| I had the same problem with Sweet Pea. She ended up liking the Bitter Apple Spray, so i went to the hardware store and got some thick black tape. I taped up the cords and then put some clear deoderant on them, works perfect, Sweet Pea hates the taste!!
