| In a blink of an eye .... Last Tuesday the weather was awesome, and hubby decided to take our little guys for a walk to the mailbox which is about 3 city blocks away. They were on their way home, when he stopped to talk to a neighbour. Out of nowhere, two large bloodhounds came running out of their unfenced yard that is surrounded by bushes, and attacked our dogs, which were both on leash. All hubby saw was a blur of brown in the corner of his eye. Thankfully, our dogs were on a coupler and he was able to pull them off the ground up into his arms, but not before one of the bloodhounds snapped at our little Rudy. The owner of these dogs came out of her house at the same time they were attacking, and activated the shock collars that they were both wearing. Both of her dogs backed off and ran back into her yard, where she immediately put them in their kennel. She had only left them alone outside for a minute, to go and get them a treat. I got home from work about 20 minutes later, to find a trembling terrified little dog, a hubby who was a basket case, and our little Toby ready to take on the world to protect them both. The vet found two puncture wounds, one just above Rudy's ribs on his left side, and one on his back about three inches above his tail. He has bruised ribs on the left side, and a possibly bruised kidney, but incredibly no serious injuries, he will be fine. Of course, he is sore and we are trying to keep him quiet, but other than that, he is almost back to his normal self already. We are so incredibly lucky that this story has a happy ending, that hubby wasn't attacked, and that we still have both our little guys. We should have named him Lucky, though

| I am so very sorry. Thank goodness that your husband was quick to grab the kids up out of harm's way and that the owner of the dogs happened outside. Sending hugs and prayers for Toby's quick recovery. I sincerely hope that this incident doesn't leave him with risudial emotional scars. |

| What a scary situation! It's awful when something like this happens but thank God that they are going to be OK! I had a similar situation with Jackson with a Black Lab but not as many injuries as you. Jackson now has a permanent cut on his nose and a permanent tooth gone! It's such a scary thing! Dogs like that especially should NOT be kept off - leash!

| Please make sure you and your husband always carry Muzzle (mace for dogs) whenever you are walking your dogs. Simply picking them up won't stop an attacking dog. Most likely the human will get bitten also. I'm sure it was the shock collars that stopped these dogs. You were very, very lucky that the owner was right there. I hope you reported the incident. Whether the owner left the dogs alone for a minute or an hour, they were unsupervised and unrestrained. The next victim might not be so lucky. |

| How frightening! I'm so glad that everything turned out okay. I'm sure hubby and pups may be a little on guard during walks after this. That's a terrible way to have to feel. I know the bloodhounds owner was able to get them to retreat, but I WISH people would take this more seriously and keep their big dogs leashed/fenced at ALL times. We hear these stories too often.

| Thank goodness they are ok! I'm very familiar with the coupler jerk and grab. I stopped walking my dogs for the longest time because of unleashed dogs or dogs darting out their front doors. I always hear the same thing...He won't hurt them... I'm not taking that chance. I don't understand this ignorance people have. We have fenced in back yards in my neighborhood and my neighbors STILL let their dogs out in the front yard. Once again, so glad your babies are ok.

neighbors are! Most have fences, yet their dogs still run free. Granted, they are all very nice dogs but there's a few very annoying ones who are hyper so it gets very annoying having Jackson out on the leash when he's scared of a HUGE loose hyper Lab that HAS a fence but is not contained in it!

| Have you spoken to the owner to encourage him/her to muzzle their dogs and keep them on leash when they're outside? In the least, they should be muzzled even with the shock collar on to prevent incidents such as what happened to your husband and pet from happening again. It could have ended worse. It might end worse for someone else. I'm glad both your husband and furkid are safe. However, I would speak with the owners otherwise, I would report them if they refuse to listen to the very much needed advice. That may be just me, but everyone only had luck and quick reaction to thank this time around. I do not know which part of the Island you are located, but this may pertain to your municipality as welll: Dangerous Dogs in the Capital Regional District. |

| The owners of these dogs were as horrified as we were when this happened. They are normally very friendly dogs and have never shown aggression before. Still, they should have not been able to run loose onto the road. They are paying all our vet bills, building a fence this weekend and posting a Beward of Dog sign at their driveway. It was unfortunate this happened at all, but it taught them a very important lesson about their dogs. Since the vet classified Rudy's injuries as bites, it was automatically reported to Animal Control. I believe that they are now required to muzzle both dogs the minute they leave their yard and keep them restrained at all times.

| omg! i am so glad the dogs and your hubby are ok! that is soooo scary! i have a pitbull 2 doors down from me. it attacked a little stafordshire bull terrier even when its owner (my other nieghbour) picked it up into his arms! this went on for a whole ten minutes! it was terrible! the niose the poor little dog was making brought tears to my eyes! the pitbull would not listen to its owners commands.. he was hitting it with a leash on the back the whole time! and it still wouldnt release its grip! it took a council worker who was passing by in his truck to get out with a sweeping brush. he used the handle to prize open the pitbulls jaws! the poor staffy had to be put to sleep! i dont know how. but they still have the pitbull! it is always on a leash these days. but if i see the owner and the dog, i cross over the street! i wouldnt take any chances! with my kids or my dog near this dog!
