| Parvo from Outside? This may be a stupid question but I remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't put your puppy down outside until its had all of its shots because that is how they get Parvo. Well, what if you want to train them to potty outside????? I am not planning on using puppy pads at all so is this okay if I just take her to potty outside and bring her right back in?

| If you are 100% sure no other dogs have been in your yard then you can let your puppy learn how to go outside to potty.. but never let a puppy down if your yard is not fenced off and you do not know if other dogs have frequented this area.. and please never go for a walk with puppy until two weeks after the last shots have been given... hope this helps... anne |

| The parvo virus can live on surfaces for months. Unless your yard is fenced in and no other dogs can get into it, it is not safe to let your puppy outside. It is very important that your puppy did not get it's first shots before nine weeks old and gets a final set of shots between 16-18 weeks, too. We had a little Maltese on another forum get parvo from his own backyard when he was eight months old. His owners thought Tucker was fully protected, but his vaccinations were given too soon and were blocked by maternal antibodies from nursing. Here is a great article for you: Parvovirus: Serious Diarrhea in Puppies & Dogs |
