| Introducing my Yorkiepoo to a Rottweiler I have a new boyfriend...it's been awhile and it seems like it will be for the long haul...one problem, he has a one year old Rotty and I have a 6 month old Yorkiepoo. They have met but I don't let them play together unless we both have their leash...normally it's good for 5 minutes before Max starts getting feisty and it kinda scares me a little bit, but I would like them to get along and be a pack, does anyone have any suggestions? | If they aren't both neutered yet, do that first! After that, take things slowly and closely supervise them. If there is any tension between them, spend lots of time with them on neutral turf rather than in the home of one or the other. Take them to the park, or maybe on nice hikes in the woods, and give them a lot of positive reinforcement when they are together and behaving nicely. If both your dog and the Rottie have nice temperaments, things will probably work out, though with two young and probably playful dogs there is always a risk that the Rottie could hurt the little one without meaning to. I'd be very wary about leaving them together unsupervised even if they end up being best friends. I know a family who has both yorkies and Great Danes. While the Great Danes would never intentionally hurt the yorkies, they do keep them in separate rooms when they are not home just so that accidents don't happen.

| I would be very careful. Because many times a larger dog that may not have ever been exposed to little dogs may accidently hurt a smaller dog. Take it slow and make sure to always supervise even when you feel comfortable with them playing.

| We have both Princess our Yorkie and Mandy our Rottie. They are best friends, people laugh when they see them together. Now there are some very strong large dogs out there, but we got lucky with Mandy because she thinks she's a Yorkie. We got Mandy because Princess was so upset when Roxanne our other Rottie pass away of old age. Roxanne took to Princess like she was her puppy. I would take it slow and make sure to always supervise them. Soon you will feel comfortable with them playing. Because they are not living in the same homes, try and have lots of play dates, if they are playing at home make sure there are toys out for both of them and put their special toys away. Princess has toys that are only for her because she plays with them. Mandy on the other hand likes to chew them up. I'm sure you love getting Yorkie kisses, well get ready for Rottie kisses, there not as good LOL, theirs are really sloppy. It's not always easy having a large and small furbaby, but it can work. It works out just fine here. Best of luck to you.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Obviously it does work for some....but I would never chance it. I don't allow mine to get within chomping distance of any large dog. Yorkies are so small one bite can be fatal and tragedy can happen in an instant.

| My daughter has a boxador, he is the most friendly lovable dog out there, he is well trained and an awesome dog, however I do not let him really come to close to Laci unless supervised , he doesnt bite her or anything, its actually her that agravates him, she jumps on his head and she thinks his ears are toys. Im just a nervous wreck when they are togehter. He has accidently jumped up and landed on my foot , he is 100 lbs and It hurt so bad.. I think it would be so dangerous if it happened to Laci....Just be very very very careful. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I would be very careful on letting them together. We have a golden retriever and she is very laid back; however, we never let them be alone together. Daisy does not like the golden retriever and I think she feels threatened by her size. In no way would Gracie (golden) ever hurt Daisy intentionally, but sometimes larger dogs do not realize how large they really are. They could step or play bite our little yorkies and damage them for life! However, I am sure there are some large dogs that get along fine with yorkies. It probably is best to get them together (we got our golden after we had Daisy). I would still make sure I kept close watch on them together though. Good Luck!

| Introducing my Yorkiepoo to a Rottweiler Thanks for all the great feedback! Max is recently neutered and King the rotty isn't. I don't think I will ever leave them alone, I was wondering if it would be possible, but now I think not. King is usually friendly, but you never know what will happen if his dad isn't around. He's big enough that he scares me if no one is around! They play nicely together, I'm usually there so it's usually on King's turf and we both hold them by their leash. |
