| What do I need to look for? I am researching getting another Yorkie. I didn't do a whole lot of research when getting Rocco aside from researching the breed itself, temperment, etc. What kind of things should I be looking for in a breeder? What questions should I be asking? TIA |

YT Addict | The best thing to do even if you do nothing else is find a breeder close enough to drive and she all her dogs. Not just puppy and parents but all her dogs. See where her dogs are house, if in a kennel ask if you will be able to see the kennel. Some breeders will say for safty they don't let people in their kennel. But if their dogs has had their shots, their dogs are fine with visters. I am a breeder and I never meet anyone, because I think they need to see my set up and all my dogs so they know they came for a great home. But this way you see for your self if it is a good breeder or puppy mill. IF the puppies look sick, how she takes care of her mamas and daddys. Good luck. |

| I agree make sure the parents are on site, AT LEAST the mother so you can gauge how big the puppies will get when they are full grown. Be weary of breeders advertising tea cup, or worse yet micro. they just do that to charge more money. Sometime they say that to catch the attention of more people, but remember there is no AKC standard of teacup or micro, just Yorkshire terrier between 4-7 pounds. Any smaller than that and many heath concerns can arise. Of course there are plenty of healthy happy 2 pounders out there, but just be careful! Also ask to see the papers and proof of when they were born. Lots of puppy mills will say a pup is older than they really are to make them seem smaller. no responsible breeder will let you take the pup before 12 weeks. They need to be with their mothers and littermates for awhile before they are adopted. any good breeder will welcome ANY questions you have. Good luck with the new furbaby! I'm excited for you!

| I have found that most reputable breeders will offer information. Of course you should have the questions you want to ask but many times a good breeder will answer all of you questions before you ask them and/or not hesitate to answer them.
