| Groundhog encounter! I'm one of those overprotective mom's who doesn't let the dogs outside without constant supervision. I have a groundhog who has lived under my barn for 5 years. I put a fence up and normally scan the yard before letting the boys out to make sure she isn't out munching on dandelions. Well, last weekend, I let the boys out. (Apparently not scanning the yard) and put some food in the microwave to heat. I heard them barking, so I looked out the door. There is a woods and trail behind my house so it's not unusual for them to bark. Well, my iris's in the back of the yard were waving like 50mph wind. I went out to investigate and found both my dogs had the groundhog cornered at the back of my fenced in yard. When my yorkie is hesitant and I walk toward him, he gains confidence. He charged even closer to the groundhog as I got closer. I had to pull him back off of her by his tail. Luckily, my shih poo isn't driven to hunt so he pulled back as soon as I picked the yorkie up. The groundhog was terrified (so was I). My heart was pounding. I was so thankful that he didn't attack it and there didn't have to be an emergency vet visit. Such an unusual thing for me not to scan the yard and be out there with them when I let them out. This is how accidents happen, I'm so thankful everyone was ok.

| Wow what a tense moment! I have the same fear, I have a ground hog living in this ditch that runs along my property line and starts the woods (which my house is next to). The ground hogs get big! I know this one is larger than my Tater or CoCo. Are ground hogs known to be aggressive? I already have a fear of letting them out at night due to Raccoons and Coyotes, now I am wondering if I need to be nervous in the day as well!! |

| Paula!!! Sorry to hear about your scare with the groundhog...but happy to hear it all turned out okay and nobody, including you, was hurt. I don't think they are normally aggressive animals, but I would think if they were cornered or felt the need to protect themselves, they could get ugly. Miss you around here girlfriend!!!
