Donating YT 1000 Club Member | He's hearing something you are not. Our yorkie did this shortly after we got her and we told her everything was fine. She kept barking and my husband finally told her she had bats in her belfry(sp). The next day we got up and went into the back yard and BOTH gates on BOTH sides of our house were open. Someone had been in our back yard, hubby and I never heard a thing, but she DID! Could there be a mouse in the wall, attic, under the floor?

| i know my husbands dog taz used to do that. he thought it was because there was a spirit in the house. Dogs are sensitive to that kind of thing.

| How long have you had your baby? Maybe he's just not used to the environment yet. |

| Bree barks for nothing every day and some nights, but she runs from room to room while she does it. Maybe she hears something that we are unable to hear.

| I wouldn't comfort him. When he's barking, and you're petting and comforting him...that makes him think he's doing a good thing and just encourages him to bark more. Try shaking coins in a can and saying "Quiet!" The loud noise will distract him. Just let him know everything's OK, and you've got it under control.

| I have 3 and one of them is the protector. He can hear a pin drop and starts barking. We have a night light in our bedroom and at night he sees his shadow on the wall and starts. I am sorta glad he lets us know he hears or sees something.

YT Addict | Yes, I too have this problem. Sometimes he stares at the light fixture and barks. Sometimes he stares at one corner of my bedroom ceiling and barks. Sometimes he barks at my card board cutout of Spike from Buffy. And finally, there is an animal that he can hear under the house through the bath tub, so he is always sitting at the tub barking.

| I have just shifted George's bed from the spare room to our bedroom as he was crying too much and with winter coming on I didn't want him to be cold, any way as soon as the light went off the first night he started barking, stopped after a while, second night barked a bit but not so much trouble and last night it was just little growls, we weren't sure what he could hear but then we realised he could hear the cats coming in the cat door but because it was dark he wasn't game to go downstairs. Do dogs see much in the dark.

| Mine Does The Same But.... ...it is outside that he has these barking rages.....in the middle of the night...12-1am. There is nothing out there, usually I see nothing that he's barking at. But last night, Fred (Gorden Setter)came over around midnight and that was the reason for his barking rages. Fred's brother, Bow-Wow (Lab/Husky mix)is my Yorkie's best friend. Bow-Wow might of been there, but I came out when Fred was there. |

YT 500 Club Member | Meg started this up after DH had to wear his "wartime gear" - gas mask, helmet, bulletproof vest, etc - and work nights. (He is in the military.) He came home looking like that at 2am every night for a week, and it set gears in motion for Meg. She barked every night, and has been going at it since. She barks at shadows and at any noise she hears. Last night I actually heard her howling on the balcony like a little wolf, or like that howling watchdog from 101 Dalmations. <sigh>

| she is definately sensitive and hears something that you dont. i would possibly check for mice and other animals. i sleep with a fan on so hopefully peka wont hear as much, but she still hears alot more than i do. ie: people walking around, dogs outside, etc. she's not crazy, and maybe investigate whatever she is staring at. let her go and see what comes of it. but definately check it out. as small as some of these dogs are, my peka is still my little guard dog. i know when anyone shows up in my house, or a door is open. yes sometimes, it is annoying when i know who it is or others are trying to sleep, however, there are many times i am truly grateful for her letting me know! she is a blessing. good luck! |

| My Chewie will bark when there is nothing around. My hubby insists she is barking at ghosts. I don't know....
