I have put him in his play pen and he crys more...which he never has cried before...he loves his alone time...How do i help him leave the stitches alone !...and the whinny criying pouting , is this a normal thing?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Bless his heart - Mine didn't cry after surgery but I also gave the pain pills the vet gave me - did they give him anything for pain ? Poor baby - I wish I had advise but wanted to send him a big hug - I'd be really upset too if mine were whimpering in pain - Maybe call your vet to see if they have any solutions for helping him through this ? I hope he feels better really fast ! |

| I am sorry to hear that Yoda is having a rough start to his day today. We didn't experience any problems after Teddy was neutered so I can't begin to know what your going through right now. I myself wouldn't sedate him... Today is going to be probably the worst day that you will have to get through and his pain meds should start taking affect soon I would hope. As for bothering the stitches others here have used baby onsies so they can't get to them to chew and bother them. I hope he starts feeling better soon.

| My Yorkies have not seemed to have pain from the surgery, but Piper got almost frantic after having anesthesia. He was so agitated that he couldn't rest, and was walking around every-which-way, bumping into walls and furniture. The vet said that wasn't unusual and it would wear off in time. I put him on his leash and took him outside and just let him walk around. After what seemed like forever, but was really about two hours, he either got tired enough to rest, or had worn off the after-effects. Meanwhile, being outside distracted him enough that he seemed less frantic. It may help your baby to try that too. |

| A seditive is smart if he wont leave the stiches alone an alternative is a cone so he cant reach them and allow them to heal.

| Ok This is what I did....I called his vet back and talked to them again...they want me to come in and get the sedative....they think alot of it might be anxiety, as some of you know he is my service dog...the vet thinks that Yoda is having alot of issues of not being able to do his normal activity. He thinks that he wont stay put because he is worried about me...so I am off to the vet to get this sedative....Also he does not want him outside yet..yoda is pad trained and goes out to play, so the vet said NO play time today or tomorrow so that kinda sucked....its a real nice sunny day here today and i thought that what Piper'smom said would have been a good idea to help him not think of it. I will keep udating thoughout the day...Thanks so much ya'll !!!

| The onsie will work great to keep him from bothering the stitches. Max wouldn't leave his stitches alone so I used a onsie for 2 weeks, they healed really well and after a few days he didnt mind the onsie one bit Max wouldnt stay still for about 3 days after his surgery, he only cried sometimes. The good news is every day he'll get better and better.

| I never like giving drugs unless they are necessary but it sounds like he is in pain and they might just help. I just would make sure they are in his best interests. I think just having your attention and you being there and cuddling him, napping with him even is great. Buddha didn't cry after his surgery but he was sore and he tried to lick the incision. We used a onesie on him and it was great. I hate those cone collars....they make a dog so depressed. I mena how uncomfortable would that be? I cannot imagine wearing that after being through a surgery.....!!! |

| He slept for 2 1/2 hrs...now he is awake , whinning again . Aleast when he woke up I was able to get him to eat just a little , not enough though , so I gave him some Nutri-Cal. He drank a bit of water not much and that worries me. Its so heartbreaking for him to act like this. I am sure tomorrow will be a much better day. The vet wants me to give him his pain med again tonight instead of tomorrow morning and also the sedative. He said the only other time he has had a problem like this was with another service dog....I guess it really takes a toll on them. Thanks again for all of your reassuring posts and advice! ( BTW I enjoyed my nap too! ) Becky
