My furkids Donating Member | I agree!! Why would you let your dog out full well knowing there are coyotes in the area!! I posted a thread about a yorkie being killed by a coyote here in Mass. The news man said if you make alot of noise it would scare the coyote off...Apparently they are getting used to humans...didn't seem to work in this case...What if that had been a child! OMG! What a horrible death that must have been for that little furbaby!!

| After reading the accompanying article, those owners are idiots! Based on how I am interpreting the article it sounds like the coyote came into the yard, waited for the pup to finish and then attacked... and the owners were on the patio the whole time??? Seriously unbelievable. I feel badly they lost their pet, but who could possibly watch a coyote come into the yard, stalk their dog and not do anything? |

| Unfortunately coyotes and deer and the like are considered wildlife. Police are not allowed to touch them by law. If they are attacking people, then they can step in. I don't think just yelling will work. I believe it would take more noise like the previously mentioned pots and pans being banged together and before the coyote got that close to the dog. I feel bad for these owners but they knew the coyotes were in the area. Personally I would have made sure my dog was on a leash and super close to me whenever it was outside. I feel even worse for the dog. Poor thing must have endured unbelievable pain!

| As heartless as this sounds, in our area the locals encourage each other to shoot coyotes on sight. They carry some diseases that you wouldn't want your pet to have. I've only seen one, and the only hair it had on it's entire body was the tip of it's tail which suggests mange. Yes, they are wildlife, yes they kill to eat, and yes they will kill something their own size or less and that includes our kids. |

| Wow, what a horrible thing that was for both that poor baby who was killed and also for his owners to helplessly watch him being killed. It's kind of like being between a rock and a hard place- the coyotes just being coyotes in their own natural habitat and your beloved pet being able to go in his yard. Myself, I think that I would have first researched the area more as to get an idea of this kind of thing before even having a pet there and then I would research other more effective and humane ways to keep the coyotes at least out of my yard. And, as a last resort, I think I would be tempted to use more forceful means of protecting my beloved pets and family members. But, only under extreme circumstances as I am an animal lover and do believe all animals have a right to their existence/environment. But, we also as humans have rights too for ourselves and our pets. It's sometimes a precarious balance to maintain.

When Remy is at his grandparents (they watch him when I am away and he can not go with me) he is watched closely when outside. They are in a northern part of the Baltimore County area (where I grew up) and it is country. We certainly don't have coyotes, but there are racoon, red fox, and all kinds of other animals. It is just basic common sense to be careful. My Dad would never let Remy out on his own or off leash, because things can happen too quickly! Living in a community with any risk exposure for one's pup (be that other animals, wild or domestic, or city risks such as cars, rats, etc) requires an owner to be proactive and prepared. I do feel bad, and absolutely sick for that pup, but shame on those owners! | |

| We have coyotes here. I live across the street from a golf course and near a large provincial park and our neighborhood has a few of them who have made our home their home. Like the video said, they aren't even scared of humans anymore and they are the size of wolves now. We have a fanced yard and even then I always keep Lucas on a leash to go out. Some days, when I have see the coyote across the street I opt for indoor play and excercise rather than taking him for a walk. Too scary This poor family and poor little dog

| That story made me cry! I'm sorry, but once they start dragging children off, I believe that something has to be done about it. People cannot live in fear of their children being eaten by coyotes.

| Now that I'm more calm, I do feel bad for the couple; that most be one of the most painful sight, to see your furbaby tear up apart at live, when I first saw the video the first thing came on my mind was how painful is dead could it behere in California we had tons of coyotes, montain lions, hawks etc, when Phobe was a pup I just take her to the local big park, saw a hawk watching usPhoebe was all the time on a leash and I had my hubby watching the hawk lol, anyway my neighboor who just to go running at taht park, with his husky saw a montain lionthat is one of the reason we don't go there anymore, no even with a leash and hubby with us, one bite is all it take with this little onescall me over protective, but I rather been safe than sorry

| I feel very sorry for the family in this story. But, If they knew the Coyotes were in their yard and around the area, they should've had their dog on a leash. Home Builders keep on building in the Coyotes territory. What do people think is going to happen?? They were here first. Why shoot them when we're the ones @ fault. There are alot of wild animals out there whose homes are being destroyed, If people know they're around don't let your children and pets outside without supervision. Put up high fences to deter the animals from coming into your yard. If you have Hawks,Eagles and Falcons, then take your dog out on a leash or put up a run that is covered with fencing and the birds will not be able to carry away your pets. Please use your heads people. Wild animals are doing what they have to do to survive and for hundreds of years that's how they did it. If you're going to live in their territory then protect your pets and children. It's not their fault, It's the reckless peoples fault...IMO...

| It was a stupid mistake they made but I think they are paying for it. I watched the video and heard the emotion in their voices and I don't think it's something they will ever forget or get over. They know they made a mistake because they came on television to warn others not to make that same mistake. Some may not agree but I really do feel bad for the owners and of course I feel bad for that poor dog. Elaine |
