| My Yorkies Appettite. I have 3 yorkies. 2 of them are greedy we things and will eat almost anything, and the other eats almost nothing. Well one of our Yorkies scarlett 3 years ago gave birth to 4 yorkies, me were meant only to keep one, but Charlie was very small my mum had to hand feed him milk because he was getting pushed away by the other puppies when trying to get some milk, but my mum ended up keeping him. Well because he was small he suffered from a liver shunt when he was a few months old and the same about, 1 year ago. He has had 2 operations to fix it, and thankfully he's better. But he does have some funny turns now and again, but what we're mostly worried about is the way he eats. If we put down dog food for him, he justs sniffs it and walks away but my other dogs just gobble it up. Sometimes he just doesn't eat anything for the whole day and ends up making himself sick. This morning I put down his dog food, but he just done what he usually did, walked away, so then I tried him with some special food, he got for his liver shunt, but again he just walked away, we ended up having to give him bits of cereal, which he at last eat, we tried anything just to get something in his stomach. And I'm worried that because of his Liver shunt it's kind of stopped him eating, Does anyone else's dog do this that has had a Liver shunt? |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | wow, poor little guy has been through a lot. i don't have any suggestions for you but there are quite a few people on here with dogs who have liver shunts (single and multiple) who have to deal with feeding issues. Maybe you should post in the health/diet forum or make a new thread with "liver shunt" some where in the title so more people will look

| Do you have a pen or some place you can feed him separately? If mine don't eat readily, I put my little one in her pen with food so I know just how much she is getting. If they don't act hungry, I feed twice daily, I will leave kibble down until they do eat. Try "doctoring" the food with something special. Sometimes I just warm and soften the kibble with hot water then drain the water off, if that doesn't work, I try boiled rice, oatmeal, scrambled egg or whatever just as long as it is OK for dogs to eat. Mine are picky too but not for the same reason. Good luck. |
