Donating YT Addict | Question about Yorkie ear hair I tried to do a search on this subject and couldn't find one or it didn't search right. I've seen on here where your supposed to pull their hair from the inside of their ears. I seen this on the grooming page I think......well it's not supposed to hurt them. I did one ear on Tyke and he was fine. When i did the other ear he let out a yelp like it hurt and i quit. Now he keeps shaking and scratching his ear. I put some hydocortisone spray on it because it's for irritations too. What do i do? do you think it just feels different to him and it bothers him now? thanks for any advice.

| That process is called " Ear Plucking" I would really have your vet/groomer show you how to do this, because you can cause damage if you don't do it right. When I was a grooming assistant, we would use an ear powder to loosen the hair, and use a hemostat to pull the hair out of the ear canal. Good LUck!

| My Kayla also has hairs that grow from her ear canal which need to be plucked. She's prone to ear infections if they aren't kept clear from hairs. Maybe your furbutt has a slight infection in his ear and it's causing him discomfort and that's why he's not so keen for you to do the other side. I've always had the groomer do this for me though but it is something I would like to try myself because it's the only thing she does go to the groomer for.

| I pluck the hair out of all 4 of my yorkies ears myself. They dont make a sound when i do it. I use the ear powder and then i use my fingers to pull it out. It comes out really easy. Then i use ear cleaner to clean the ears.

| Only pull the hairs little at a time that's coming out of the ear canal itself. It should come off easily, & it shouldn't hurt them. Powder does make it easier to grip, but be careful, my vet said lots of dogs come in w/clogged ears from powder...

Donating YT Addict | thanks for your comments. he's doing better today......I used a dog ear cleanse today and he hasn't messed with his ears but a few times. Maybe I pulled out to much at one time is why it hurt him. I did only pull out the hair in his ear canal. But I was reading today in my Yorkshire Terrier handbook ( that's what it's called ) It said that sometimes their skin can be irritated easily in the ear canal and you can rub some mineral oil to relieve the skin. Haven't done that.....I wanted to see if the ear cleanse helped first.
