| im worried! i have never had a yorkie and my 9 month old breezy jjust got back from getting fixed (he's a boy). they said you cant ley him walk, run, play with other dogs (which is big since he ALWAYS plays with my german shepard), he cant lick his sticks, he cant go for walks longer then 10-30 yards, go to the bathroom by himself. they are basically saying keep him locked up for 2 weeks! can you really stop a dog from licking his stitchs ALL the time? and can you really stop the dog from walking/runnning? im not gonna let him play with my other dog but the other things seem pretty immposiable. im worried im not gonna do a good job. |

| Couver had a one day recovery period... he was drowsy and in pain. After that, he acted as though nothing had happened. I tried not to let him do anything crazy, but he was fine. For the boys, its a lot less of a serious surgery... He will be fine

| When Ziggy was fixed he spent a lot of time sitting on my lap. He did lick his stitches all the time and had no complications from it. You'll be surprised how quickly he will bounce back.

| Unless he had undescended testicles and they had to go in and search for them, which is more invasive than a regular neuter, then 2 weeks seems extreme to me. A day or two of very limited activity (penned up or crated when not being held) should be just fine, followed by gradually increased freedom to run. Of course, if his surgery was more invasive, listen to the vet

| Jackson was the same way! I kept him on a leash but I wasn't too strict with the rules after the 3rd day... he was acting absolutely fine, he wasn't hurting, I continued to give him his pain meds for 5 days! I don't think it's entirely necessary (esp. for a boy) to be "locked up" for 2 weeks. He knew his limits most of the time. If the other dog came up to play with him and he was too tired, he would walk away from her and ignore her. So he knew when he could or couldn't! You will do fine

| Yeah, it's probably smart to make sure he doesn't lick the stitches or bite them out so it heals properly. But I find it's not a big deal if it's an occasional lick every now and then. Whenever you catch him doing it though, just stop him. You and your baby will be fine, I promise

| Gus wore an E-collar (cone). This prevented him from licking the sutures. It took him a couple of days to get used to the cone.

| I see a lot of people on here ignore their vet's advice. It is much better to be safe then sorry. You can either wear a soft cone on him or a onesie but you need to limit his activity if you want him to heal properly especially if he's a jumper. He can get a hernia or if he tears his stitches he will need to be restitched so why take that chance. |
