| Traveling Along!!!(It is Long too, sorry) Yorkie Talk Friends, As many of you know, General Patton will be getting a sister in two weeks! I got the word from her breeder today and said that LIPSTIK is ready to come. So, I checked all airlines and saw that America West is the only airline that has non-stop from Raleigh, NC to Phoenix, AZ. I have tentatively scheduled the flight to leave Raleigh, NC on Sept 24th and to return the same day from AZ. I think I have read to ask for window seat, so there is less interest in the puppy and being less noticed I can put her on my lap (soothe her)when the plane takes off and stewardess have already sat down. I like it not only because it is non-stop, but also is the cheapest if I wait till Sept 24(Sept 17th is twice the cost). In addition, there is an additional $80 for LIPSTIK'S return under the seat with me. However, America West also requires a health certificate within 30days of it being issued. A rabies certificate is required for dogs. Here is my first question. LIPSTIK was born 6-17 and may not need a rabies test yet, so do you think that a health certificate alone would do? I will confirm the flight tomorrow and plan on asking. However, the breeder said that would cost me $60 to have a health certificate and since the vet is far from her residence, I was trying to also avoid the trip if it wasn't required. But I will definitely ask America West. I still think that it is worth the extra charge because the flight is non-stop direct. The only thing is that I will be in the Phoenix airport for about 5 hours before the flight departs back to NC. Though it is bad since I will be there for that period of time,it will give me ample time in case there is a delay. The breeder will be driving three hours from her home to Phoenix and meeting me at the airport. I would have loved to have met Lipstik's mom but this is the best I can do given I have limited time and no transportation. But a YT member has gotten a puppy from this breeder and was satisfied, so I am not too worried about the breeder. I have discussed the quality of this breeder's pups in an earlier post. I will also have time to talk with the breeder, read the contract, etc. A question I have is can she roam on the airport on a harness or does she have to be inside the carrier while I am waiting for the flight back home? So, having said that....here are some things I want to bring along. I have a soft carrier (not too big so it will fit under the seat). I have read that it is nice to get her adjusted to a carrier. I wont be able to do this, but maybe I will ask the breeder to put her on a carrier several times to get her used to some type of carrier. will bring several piddle pads, a toy, a blanket, a water bottle that has a lid she can drink from, some food., and a harness. I have also read from prior posts about a treat or something to chew (to avoid pressure on her ears). I also read something about checking with my vet about some calming product(maybe Benadryl). What else? I am looking forward to any suggestions you may have that would make the trip run smoother. I am so excited!!! Let me know your suggestions.

| Sounds like you've got it all covered. I'd check with the airport in AZ to find out where you can walk her while you wait. Most are very helpful if they know the situation in advance. We are doing the happy dance for you! |

| I have traveled with my yorkie. Just in Jan I traveled and her ticked was $100. on Northwest. Now I just booked and it was $160. Boy plus the vet check and it's almost as much as mine!! My ticket was $235. it was a good deal but my pet will travel for about $15-20 less than me!!! Shoot I should just book her a seat then I won't have to consider the person next to me!!! That sounds good!!! |

| I don't know if this helps but I am from the Phoenix area and I always take Teddy to the airport with me. I have seen many dogs strolling around the airport before going through the security gate. I don't know once you get beyond that point though. If there is anything at all that you need while you are here I would be glad to give you my personal information via PM just so you don't feel alone should something come up unexpected. Congrats on the new puppy!!

I am going to call the Phoenix Airport and ask about being able to have her outside the carrier for a short period of time. Thanks again all YT friends! The flight is now confirmed and the puppy also is confirmed on the return flight.

| I'm sure that I will be travelling by air with Rowdy so please post what the airport said about her being out of the crate in the airport and also where they might go to "piddle". I've been wondering about tha,t even using pee pee pads - where would I take him in the airport to put down the pad and let him tinkle, or more??? |

| I am so excited myself. Everything has been straightened out. I checked with americawest and they do require a health certificate. The breeder will be taking Lipstik to the vet so a health certificate can be issued. But a rabies test is not needed because Lipstik is so young. Thanks for your post.
