| my horrible PETCO experience We booked Scamp, our 5 month old puppy, a grooming appt at PETCO for today. We did not book Sat as they said he would be waiting a few hours due to a busy day (we didnt want him there extra time as much as possible).... We dropped him off at 11:25 for an 11:30 appt, explained we just wanted some of the scragglys trimmed, not shaved, and his wisker area and ears, etc trimmed (he is a redleg so naturally a bit scragglier than a typical yorkie would look but we try to keep the scragggliness to a minimum) They said about 3 hours...we were okay with that, as thats what we have found to be the norm in calling around. We called at 2:30 (3 hour mark) to check him as we were heading in homes direction and they said he had his bath but it would be a while longer, theyd call us..... I called two more times within the next two hours and they kept saying they were sorry but please be patient theyd call us when we was done--- I was getting livid and feeling sooo bad for my little pup who was surely scared to death! Finally I had enough and headed to the store, 5 hours after we dropped him off, call or not. I arrive and they tell me it would be 30 more minutes and that they were so sorry. I was livid...but what was I going to do. I walked out into the store and asked for a manager, told her the situation and explained that I wanted him and that i was very disatisfied. She told me she was going to go talk to the grooming center manager. I proceeded to walk the store, worrying about my little guy..... manager finds me and says that she was so sorry and other manager had said they somehow got overbooked and they were sorry and it wouldnt be much longer and offered me a coupon for my trouble (25%off his groom), and assured me it never happens *ya ok*. I waited in a chair by the grooming center for another 45 minutes (couldnt see him getting cut from the chair)...and FINALLY Scamp was done when i went to check on him once again, he was back in a cage and they never paged or looked for me (knowing i was there). He was butchered!!!! Trimmed was not even heard apparently in our detailed conversation about what we wanted groomer said "sorry for the long wait guess you got a free groom out of it" (i assumed she meant from my conversation with the manager--i was taken back since the manager said nothing of the sort to me but had given me the coupon i mentioned above), so went to check out , with a bag of treats in hand too i was going to get. I was just happy to have him as horrible as he looked.....proceed to checkout in the store. I waited (watching clock) for 10 minutes at checkout, and looking around the store for the manager i had spoken to almost an hour previously by this point and nooone came to register!!! I finally put the treats down at the register and walked out with my butchered pup in hand. We had dinner plans and this was absolutely rediculous!!! Now i know it probably wasnt the best thing to do, but I honestly tried to ask the manager about the groomers comment, was trying to check out (double check the groomers statement and give receipt thing they gave me), but noone could bother to come to the register! I had already waited 6 hours for a 3 hour grooming appt!!! So now Im feeling guilty that I didnt pay for the groom. They havent called, and they have our contact information from the grooming paperwork. Im scared they will call the police........am I a horrible person, can i get in trouble for this? Im never having scamp groomed again i dont think!!!

| In Raleigh, too Well, I wish I could say this is an isolated incident, but we read about bad Petco grooming experiences all the time! I am in Raleigh too, which store were you at (just so I can keep telling people to avoid them!) I am always amazed how hard it is to find a good groomer. Harder than even a good vet! If anyone knows a good one in Raleigh, I would sure love to know about it, I have tried a bunch, with no luck. Kate |

| Wow, 3 hours to groom one little Yorkie? That seems excesive to me. I take my two Yorkies AND my Lhasa Apso, all in full coat, to my groomer and they are all done in under 2 hours. I confess that I do give them all a thorough comb through the night before but they still have to be bathed, combed, nails trimmed, feet rounded and bows put in. The grooming salon that I use is owned by my Yorkie breeder. I have never used "store" groomers because of the horror stories I have heard. You just give me another reason to stay away!

Thor's Human Donating Member | Honestly, from all the complaints I've heard about PetCo grooming, from all over the country, I would just tell people to never go there. Dogs being killed by other dogs, groomers nicking the dogs, groomers abusing the dogs... seriously, I think PetCo should shut down this "service" branch.

| Ugh I just hate store groomers! Its horrible what you went through with them and your poor baby! I think for them its a job and not a passion like it should be. My mom took Nemo to be groomed at Petsmart(I had to work) and she was in there for hours! She said they had so many in there ( and yes I had an appointment which obviously means zilch to them) and when it was finally his turn she kept unhooking him from the table and carrying him with her to answer the phones!! Don't they have other people for that?! Needless to say I was absolutely livid. Mom said he cried too. I know if I was there I would have scooped him up and left! Don't they care at all?! And on top of that I was expecting the price they told me...like $15 for a puppy cut and she came out of there with a $50 bill (well she got a brush also) bc she got the extra package which they quoted at a lower price. Needless to say I'm not taking him back there. They also told mom to train him to stay still by hold his chin up, etc. and our super smart local pet store lady said "they're just trying to get you to do their job for them." Luckily she recommended a wonderful groomer I'm gonna give a try.
