| New Yorkie owner needs advice!! We just recently adopted an 8 month old Yorkie. I know NOTHING about Yorkies and was very excited to find YT!!! My little guy can't bark! Well, he can bark but only the quietest little squeaks come out! I took him to the vet and she assured me he has not been "de-bark". Is this common in Yorkies? Vino's coat is very dull and always feels dirty. What kind of shampoo do you recommend? Can little boys wear the cute bows in their hair or is that just for the little girls? Potty training isn't going so well!! Any tips? His little tongue is always sticking out of his mouth (so cute), is that a Yorkie thing? Alot of the time he will just run in circles around the house, like he is nervous.... normal? Thanks for reading my thread! I look forward to getting to know some of you! ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!!! |

| Hiya and welcome...and congratulations on adopting your little yorkie boy. Im sure some of his problems will sort themselves out as he settles in and starts to feel safe. Meanwhile, i am sure there will be many suggestions popping up for you before too long. I bath Molly every 2 weeks, and use johnsons doggy anti-tangle shampoo with conditioner. It really suits mollys fur, along with daily brushing. She wouldnt let me brush her to start with (she was 2 when i adopted her) but lies back and enjoys it now! you will have lots of fun on here, and also learn lots of useful hints on yorkie care. |

| Hi and welcome the Yorkie Talk and the wonderful world of Yorkie ownership. First let me tell you that I was so confused when I first got my puppy and am thankful for the wonderful advice from Yorkie Talk. There is a section for training and there are all kinds of topics and subjects that are helpful on potty training. I would suggest you read through it and find the method that best works for you and your puppy. Mine is now 10 months old and she is finally getting the hang of potty training. Regarding bows, I am not sure about males wearing bows but I am sure one of the male dog owners will provide you with some feedback. One of the nice things I have found about Yorkie Talk is if you post a question and provide as much detail as possible you will always get a response. My advice to you is find a good vet that you trust and also a good groomer (read the posts about both to help if needed). As far as bathes - well I use my shampoo on Sophie Kate and I know that is not recommended but it works. I also have a supply of baby wipes on hand to give her a "touch up" between bathes and grooming. Good luck, you will love being a Yorkie owner.

| Congrats on your new baby! I have some advice for the potty training. I use pee pads and they work great! It can be a lil difficult in the beginning to train them to use the pad but once they get the hang of it. Your life will be less stressful. You can also train them to go outside as well. My lil girl uses the pad and she also go outside when were on walks. It’s nice to have two alternatives. You have to make sure you give positive reinforcment (praise or treats)everytime they go on the the pad or outside. It will make a huge difference! Yelling at them will only discourage them. Hope this helps a little Good Luck

Shampoo: Bio-Groom is very popular on this site. Potty training : Don't let the run of the house to the dog. He will learn faster in a limited space. The tongue thing sound cute.. but make sure he drink enough water too. Is he running around or running in small circle??? Because the small circles would come from spending most of his time in a small cage before you got him Is he from the pet store? | |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! You'll find that there never seems to be two Yorkies exactly the same, so what works for one does't always work for another but you'll at least get some starting points. It's kind of trial and error. You might find searching one question at a time better because you'll get a ton of info to sort through to see if it pertains to you and your Yorkie. Quote:

| Welcome neighbor. My little guy can't bark! Well, he can bark but only the quietest little squeaks come out! I took him to the vet and she assured me he has not been "de-bark". Is this common in Yorkies? Believe me, it's nice when they don't bark, my last biewer took a long time to learn to bark. She hardly ever barks and when she does, it's not very loud, this is a good thing, since I have 4 inside dogs. Vino's coat is very dull and always feels dirty. What kind of shampoo do you recommend? Can little boys wear the cute bows in their hair or is that just for the little girls? I use bio grom. Never any human shampoo. I don't even use baby shampoo, but, bio groom has puppy shampoo(tearless) and if you go on their website, they will send you some free samples. Sure little boys can wear bows, they even make some on ebay with bones, etc. on them for little boys Potty training isn't going so well!! Any tips? Lots of praise and consistency. Has he been neutred yet? If not, I would suggest to get him neutred before the peeing turns in to marking. His little tongue is always sticking out of his mouth (so cute), is that a Yorkie thing? Yes, this is a yorkie thing. You will find a lot of pictures of yorkies on here with their little tongues out. Alot of the time he will just run in circles around the house, like he is nervous.... normal? Not sure what to tell you on that, mine run, but, not in circles, that you may want to get checked out if it continues Thanks for reading my thread! I look forward to getting to know some of you! ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!!! |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Hello........and welcome to Yorkie Talk and the wonderful world of yorkies!!! I snuck a peek at Vino's picture first........he is really cute I'll try to give you a little advice to your questions........... - He doesn't bark huh? Just you wait I used to say the same thing about each of mine.....yep, just you wait!! LOL - I bathe my "kids" every week and a half or two, depending on how dirty they get. I have been using Buddy Wash and Buddy Rinse brand (found at Petco here); I really like it and have also heard wonderful things about Minksheen shampoo. If you google it, you can buy it online. - Vino is young so it's not surprising that potty training is a challenge. I just suggested earlier today to someone else....keep a watchful eye, consistency, patience, and praise! - his little tongue and running in circles thing.........doesn't sound like anything out of the ordinary. I've seen my babie's tips of their tongues sticking out at times, and there are times that they run around like crazy dogs. They're just playing! Enjoy you new little guy and enjoy learning much here on YT. Hope you and Vino become regulars here so we can see you around and watch your little guy grow!
