♥ Mama's Boy ♥ Donating Member | hypoallergenic yorkies?? I thought that yorkies were hypoallergenic?? But my boyfriends brothers friend says that every time he is around Tobie he gets sick. Well guess who is coming to visit us this weekend? My boyfriends brother and his friend are going to stay with us, I am not to excited about this because I don't want to do thing this weekend but now I have too. But anywho....are yorkies not hypoallergenic? Is there anything that I can do around the house or shampoo I can use on Tobie to help prevent him from getting sick?

| Yorkies have hair instead of fur so thats why they are thought of as hypoallergenic however they still have dander and thats most likely what hes allergic to. I dont know what you could do to remove that from your house

| That man with the allergies must take medications to help him ... He needs to do his part controlling the allergies as well... My son is highly allergic, however, dogs are not one of them. CATS are .. ANd certain other things. I like the motel idea. Give your yorkie a bath , and remind the friend to bring alond his allergy meds.

Thor's Human Donating Member | I would seriously consider a hotel room. You aren't going to be able to get your house dander-free, and your poor friend is going to be sneezing all weekend otherwise. Give Tobie a bath and at outside cafes.

| I am highly allergic to all those very furry dogs, which is one of the reasons I got a Yorkie and I have no problems... he even sleeps in my bed!!! I would tell your guest to take an allergy pill if he really thinks it's your dog!

| My step-dad gets bothered by Jackson sometimes and his arm has broken out in little red bumps before. But I think he became sort of "immune" to him after the first few weeks.

| I'm allergic to pet dander also but Fancy does not bother me at all - she even sleeps with me and I don't take any allergy medication. My dad has really bad allergies too and when he comes over he never has a problem with Fancy either. I've always heard/thought that Yorkies were hypoallergenic too. Maybe there is something else at your house that is bothering him...? Just a thought.

| my daughter is allergic to both dogs and cats and while having the yorkies has been better than other animals she is still somewhat allergic to them but again it is not anywhere near as bad. I agree with the hotel, if he has a problem then he might want to stay somewhere else to be more comfortable

| I as well suffer allergies! I am HIGHLY allergic to anything with fur or dander.. BUT i have found some products that work wonders.. There is a shampoo called AllerpetD you can wash your yorkie in. I bathe her every 2 weeks or as needed. It is supposed to help cut back almost all the dander. It is Ph balanced so it wont hurt your furbaby. I also vaccuum 3 times a week with a vaccuum that has a hepa filter. I also have a hepa filter running in the livingroom/ dinning room all the time ( thats where my dog is the most ). I know all this sounds like too much for just a visitor but its just some advice so if your bf's brother comes around often it wont be too bad on him. I completely agree about the hotel. I never stayed at friends houses too long that had animals bc i knew what would happen to me with my allergies. Even if i took a pill it was horrible, eyes watery, shallow breathing, itchy rash..lol so trust me i know how to prevent dander..also ( sorry i know it sounds like im just babbling now) i spray that febreez with allergen reducer in it throughout the house and on furniture and i wash all the blankets that come in contact with the dog like once a week.. Am i a maniac or what?! lol but my Marley is soooo worth it! Hope that helps and sorry for talking your ear off |

| I remember reading something in a pet care book written by a vet that said "no dogs are hypoallergenic" dogs with hair over fur are usually better for people with allergies because of all the grooming they require-they need to be bathed and clipped often, removing most of the allergens (sp?) before they become a problem!
