I Love Thor Donating Member | Gettin' Wet and WILD! So as most people know Thor had his big neutering day yesterday. I picked him up last night and he is doing fine. He's not show any signs of being in pain...When I was leaving the vet told me no baths for 7-10 days!! Yikes! Well I have been planning this lake trip this weekend because Thor adores it there, and he can run and run and play in the water, and fetch sticks, and chase his sister. Well it just dawned on me that the vet said no baths for 7-10 days! I'm so bummed! Has anyone gotten their doggie wet before 7-10 days after surgery? Of course I am canceling my trip, but why do you have to wait that long? I feel bad to say this but ever since I got Thor home is has been basically bouncing off the walls no stop! He's not even supposed to do stairs and I couldn't get him to stop leaping on and off the BED last night! Yikes I feel like a bad mommy, but if he's feeling this good, and his stitches (or glue stuff) look fine, I don't want to confine him and make him all sulky! Thanks for listening! Hannah |

| Hey Hannah, I just sent a request to be Thor's Dogster pal. ^_^ I love him! I think he is so cute! I let Rika pretty much do whatever she wanted after she was spayed but I did follow the no water contact rule. It helps the skin to heal faster. Kinda like if you have a scab and you take a shower the scab gets all wet and nasty. (Sorry to be graphic.) Same deal. Just bathe him on day 11 and he'll be fine! ^_^

| The no water is for the stitches to heal properly and so that the wound isn't able to open up and get infected....I followed the no water for 14 day rule..lol, because Maximus picked so much at his wound that it wasn't able to heal properly and the vet (not the one who performed surgery)...suggested waiting a couple of days more because it wasn't scabbed up enough...1 word of advice...brush him everyday!!!! Without a bath Maximus got his first ever matt right on his leg....because I was lightly brushing him and not doing his legs well...I was very upset!!

I Love Thor Donating Member | Luzangela428- Ahh! Thank you so much! That is excellent advise! As the poor thing is on a tight bath schedule he's going to be so stinky and dirty. I hadn't even thought about mats because I usually just brush him after baths and every day or so between (his hair isn't that long). Thanks so much for the heads up!! LoveMyBaby- The vet told me that if he did fidget with the area to come back and buy a ecollar. I'm not sure how much they cost but I have seen them at petsmart, and I bet they are cheaper there if you were to need one. Did you say that you were getting your dog neutered soon? I wouldn't buy one immediately because chances are you won't even need it. I have been keeping Thor occupied with his special-new-after-surgery-treats, and we have had lots of huggies, and quiet time lounging on the floor. He's been so good, and chance are that you will have the same outcome if you are facing a neuter. |

| yes yes i am facing a neutering coming up on tuesday ... im getting a lil nervous and just want to prep myself now rather than be suprised later ... what kind of treats are u giving him? my lil guy likes to lick around his nether regions but not really his balls but who knows if that interest will peak after the surgery. was it regular scaple method?

When I brought him to drop him off, I left him with his favorite stuffed animal. It made me feel better, it had my smell on it, so it was a little piece of me to be close to him. Another thing to be prepared for...a starving pup! He would have eaten the house out when he got back if I had let him! His poo was also very soft, probably from the anesthesia. He was very wobbly and 'drunk' for a while. It was kinda cute! Another thing that I was surprised about it that the incision was not on his balls, but it was more like two inches down-along his penis (does that make sense) I wish I hadn't lost my camera or I would post pics. Okay, brace yourself here, picture a lolly-pop...the balls are the cany part and the incision is the stick (but the incision is very small). Gosh that was graphic I'm sorry! They also nicked his penis when they shaved it! I was mad about this!! If I think of anything else I'll let you know! Hannah Last edited by Thorsmomma; 09-09-2005 at 08:14 AM. | |

| I was told no bath and to keep him "quiet" for a week. I took him back they next week for his recheck and was told bath and play was ok. I'm getting my second one done the end of the month and Romeo will also go in for two baby teeth extractions...I wish I could have had that done with his nuetering. They bounce back pretty fast!

| My Kelsey is quite the licker...she licks herself all the time it's so gross! But i guess thats just what dogs do. I have a feeling she'll mess with her incision-sp? after she gets spayed. Has anyone had this problem? What should I do?
