| New Member I'm a new yorkie owner & new on YT . I have a almost 6 mon. old yorkie , Max ! He is paper trained , almost , 95% of the time anyway . When I got him at 6 weeks , I was told by my vet & the breeder not to take him outside because of parvo , at least until he had all his shots . Well he has had all the shots & hates it outside , any ideas on how to adjust him to the outdoors before I start training him to go out to potty ? He loves going in the truck , but just doesnt know what to think about the outdoors . I also have read more about not getting this breed until they are at least 10 - 12 weeks old. I have alot of questions but will start here for now . Also I was thinking about getting another since I have enjoyed him so much and as I read on here most everyone says its good for them to have a playmate . Should I wait until I get him totally potty trained , if there is such a thing ? Any advice would help . Thanks , Debbie & Max |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome!! I have one I got at 13 months and she hates going outside for anything othe than to pee. I keep trying but she is so miserable. I would try taking him out and give him treats, maybe if the weather ever warms up here he will like it better outside.

| Hello and Welcome to you and Max to Yorkie Talk... I would get a stroller and take him for walks in that. Then try letting him walk in the street for a little while. As a male, sooner or later he'll want to smell where other males have marked and venture over to mailboxes,Fire Hydrants, curbs etc...He might even go on the grass to smell around. Then you can give him a treat for walking on the grass and going to do his business outside. Hope this helps... Happy Easter to you and your little one...

| Hi and welcome to YT....you got some good advice....I was going to suggest taking him for a walk......I would think eventually he will like it outside....all the interesting smells....plus it's warming up ....so hopefully that will help too... I would take him out in the a.m. as soon as he wakes up....that's when they have to go pretty bad.....and then give him a treat when he goes....then just keep taking him out....especially if you know his potty schedule...he should pick it up pretty quick...good luck...Oh yah...make sure to take him to the same spot..

| Hello and Welcome to Yorkie Talk!!!! You've gotten some great advise I'd just add that when you give him treats for potty, make sure it's something he loves, loves, loves (like cooked chicken or meaty / chewy doggy treats) and keep these treats for only potty training or outdoor training as he wouldn't grow tired of the same old treats that way and will want more of them so he'll be willing to do what it takes (going outside) to get them. Congratulations on your new baby and again Welcome to YT!!!
