| Puppy ears I've heard a lot of people saying that you should shave the hair on yorkies ears and pluck out the hair in the ear. The thing is that Libbie won't let me. When I bring the buzzer near her shes starts to run. I tried turning it on while shes having a treat but as soon as I get it close enough to her ear she runs. Do I have to force her? Has anybody ever 'not trim the ear hair?' What happends if I don't trim the ear hair? Is here ears going to stay down forever? And what age should I start doing it? Shes is turning 3 months on April 11th.

| Baxter is not full Yorkie, and has always had floppy ears. He's five months now and they are just as floppy as ever. I never shaved the hair around them, because I think he looks SO cute with his hairy, floppy ears! But I've heard that if they are teething, there ears may go up and down... three months sound young, so if you give it time, they may stand up on their own.

| I wouldn't trust myself to shave Lola's ears so I just trim the hair off front and back of ears and they are standing fine.

| I use a mustache trimmer, it's small and the buzzing isn't very loud. I start with them in their harness and with a leash on and DH helps to hold them. I let them smell it and rub in on their body and work my way to their ears. I rub it on the front and back of both ears. Once they'll sit still for this, I turn it on and repeat all the steps again. Once they'll sit still for this, I take a quick short stroke and if they start to get freaked out, I start all over again. It may take a couple of sessions to get both ears done. Always be aware of where their limit is you don't want to push them to the point of a meltdown. You want to stop during a 'good' behavior time. And lots of small baby steps in the beginning followed immediately by a treat and praise. I can do Gracie Ruth and Yogi now without DH holding them.

| My Coco just turned 1 in March. Her ears are also kinda floppy. When her head is tilted back they stand up. I was wondering if hers were ever going to stick up too. I do try to shave, but not frequent enough. She stands them up when she hears something, but other than that they are normally down. |

| Sophie's ears won't stand up on their own unless I have them shaved. Right now her groomer is on Maternity Leave and I don't trust anyone else to groom her. So we've got two floppy ears again! |

| The hair inside a Yorkie's ears grows all the way inside the ear. It is important to pluck the hair out , because it can cause ear infections. This is what my vet told me. I have my vet do this for me. I know YT members do it themselves, and some use a powder that helps loosen the hair out. I also believe shaving the ears on the outside is done at least 3/4 because this will make the ears lighter and easier for the ears to stand up. As soon as all the hair was off my Suzi's ears , hers were up . Before that she could not stand them up. Since then , they have ben standing up all the time I decided to leave it up to my groomer to do all of it though. Because Suzi had behaved the same way as your Libbie .

YT Addict | I had trouble getting Pebbles hair trimmed off her ears as well. So I found a groomer and had her do it, as I was getting concerned that they were not going to stand up. One ear was up but the other one just didn't want to come up. Two days after I got her hair trimmed by the groomer it stood up. Pebbles is 12 weeks now. I highly recommend getting her ears trimmed if you want them to stand. The groomer also told me to sit with her every night and run an electric toothbrush around her so she gets used of the sound and the vibration. I hope from doing this I will be able to shave the ears myself next time. hope this helps. |

| Thanks everbody for your respond! I some how with the help of a harness...and a blanket wrapped her up and was able to do a little shaving on her ear...with a puppy buzzer. I got some hair off..and within two days her ears were completely up. I'll post up pictures when I get home.
