| Advice Needed; Our Yorkie wants to stay outside I have no problem with her being outside and am thrilled that she likes to hang out with our two bigger dogs. BUT, she always wants to stay outside. I am curious how we can keep her hair pretty and clean. Since she is a puppy, she doesn't have the long beautiful hair, yet. But, it is still getting very dirty, and the vet told me to absolutely NOT bathe her more than once a week, and she even said she would prefer us bathing her once every 3 weeks. (Please keep in mind she is almost 15 weeks and close to 5 pounds. So, she is not a teensy-tiny Yorkie. And, of course, we have a fenced yard.) |

| I'd just keep her in a puppy cut and let her enjoy hanging with the big kids. |

| Yeap! I second that idea. Mine all love to be outside when it is warm and sunny. They are all out there right now sleeping in the warm sun. I wish I had their life.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Maybe you can give mini baths. Many times after we come back from the park, I"ll dunk Thor in a couple inches of water just to get the dirt off his paws. He gets dirty incredibly fast because he's so low to the ground.

| I do mini-baths with Missy too. A quick rinse with the showerhead and some spray in conditioner does the trick.

Buy those baby wipes in the multi-packs and wipe the baby down daily. They are great for chins that get nasty from dunking in the water bowl and booties after business too. Now that I have puppies, I really go through the baby wipes. Wipe the cereal from their heads, the poop from their little behinds, and whatever else they decide to walk on or leave on their littermates.

| my Roxy would live outside if I would let her - she's bust squirrel hunting most of the time & just loves to be outside even when the weather is cooler. Just today, I had to beg her to come in as it started to rain, because she had a squirrel treed

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Yorkies have no problem with once a week baths, I know some breeds would have a problem with this and your vet may not be as familiar with the yorkie breed. Joey's breeder did suggest using a good conditioner after every bath, as it conditions the skin as well as the hair.
