| Poor Beans. My poor Beans. I feel so bad for him. Some you know that I adopted Beans in September, well rescued him. He was living in a 9x12 plastic carrier and was skin and bones. He lived with a Pitbull and Boxer as well as a 4 yr. old. His collar was almost chewed through which leads me to believe that when he was out of the carrier the two bigger dogs must have dragged him all over the place by the collar. I also think the little girl must have pulled him by his legs because he has had issues with his feet and legs since we got him. It's taken me from September until only a month ago to be able to comb him without him screaming and cowering, which makes me believe he was either hit with the brush or comb or someone decided rather then be gentle to just pull the crap out of his knots whicht by the way he had a lot of when we got him. He was half knotted and half of his hair was chomped off. Anyway, he was neutered in September when we got him, and had his nails cut while he was under. I've tried since then to cut them, but he would scream, shake and nip if you even went near his feet so I've been working with him and the past month have been able to touch his feet, and hold them. Tonight I decided it was time to cut the nails and he went to pieces. I stroked him and talked to him and he did pretty well, but after I got half way through he started screaming and thrashing around. I finally did get them all cut but one I cut a bit too short because he pulled and it started to bleed. I used the septic on it, but he's hiding. I feel terrible. I don't know what was done to this poor baby but it had to be bad. He is just so traumitized. I thought it was better if I did it rather then a stranger (The vet) but I just hope I didn't kill his trust in me. Elaine |

| Awww Elaine. It sounds like you are being so very kind and patient with him. You are a true angel. Did you try giving him a small treat after cutting each nail? I used shreds of cheese for bribing Missy. After she seemed to relax a bit with the cutting, I would give a treat every 2-3 nails, then a treat after every foot. Now she just gets treats after they are all done. I think he'll come around for you. Especially when he started out fine. Maybe next time you can just do 1 or 2 paws rather then all 4 at once. That way he won't be overwhelmed. I am so afraid of cutting Missy's quick, so I just trim the tips of her nails every 1-2 weeks. For the last 5 months this has worked great for us. Beans is so lucky that you found him. It sounds like he had a terrible past. You are showing him the life that he always deserved.

| Bless you for taking in this baby and nurturing him. You are the miracle he needed. You saved his life. He will be forever grateful. You are all he has now. Don't worry he knows you love him, have patience. One small step at a time. Keeping you and little Beans in my thoughts and prayers. It's heartbreaking to think of what he must have gone through. You gave him a reason to live now. This is truly a rescue. Bless you and little Beans.

| Poor baby, what a blessing you are to him! Have you tried the pedipaws on him? I use one on my furkids and it works lots better than nail clippers. I've been a profession groomer for 30 or so years and when I got my first dremmel I wasn't too impressed with them, but the pedipaws is so much easier for the home groomer. It may be less traumatic for him and you can get them for less than 20 dollars now. You can start out slow, one nail at a time and work your way to a foot at a time. Bless your heart for adopting him, it takes time but he will come around. When I was a kid we adopted an abused pup and she took almost 6 months to come out of hiding but she did and she turned out to be the best dog and lived to be 17 years old! |

| A saint You are so kind and patient. Why would anyone want to hurt these dogs. They are the only thing in my life that gives me unconditional love. |

| How is Beans (love the name!) doing today? Doesn't it just tear your heart to shreds thinking of what these little ones must have gone through. Annie B was a rescued breeder from a puppy mill and I was in tears more then once from her reactions to 'normal' things when I first got her. But time does heal a lot of hurts and after about a year she started truly enjoying life. Give him some time, a lot of love and treats, he'll figure it out and come around. Do your best to act 'normal' when you do things with him. Perhaps try to spread out the 'bad' things so that he's not so completely overwhelmed right at first.

| Oh Elaine, that poor baby. It's hard to imagine the torture and stress a rescue like Beans has gone threw. Rip's your heart out just imagining such horror. Give him a little time and then try and coax him with some chicken or something special. You'll do it, that's what you do best. He knows you love him but I guess the memories are just buried in his little head of when he was not loved. He's so lucky to have you now. Beans will get better. Look how far he has already come. I wish you continued success with this little guy. Hugs, |

| We always had a hard time trimming Clarences paws..he'd scream... until we figured out that we had to hold the nail while we are clipping. We can get 2 or 3 paws done at a time. Major improvement! |

| Awe, I'm so sorry. It breaks my heart to read how traumatized he is from his past living situation. Just know that you are a doing a wonderfully loving thing by taking him. It may take time, but he'll build trust in you. I'm sure of it. |

| Oh, your story brought tears to my eyes! My heart just breaks for Beans. You are doing a fantastic job being patient with him. Don't give up. He will come to understand that your ministrations are love, even if they sometimes hurt momentarily. Your love for him is so evident, and it blesses my heart.

| First, thanks for taking Beans in and giving him a happy home. Regarding nail trimming, I find that if you do plenty of walks on sidewalks and pavement, you don't need to trim at all! Edie's nails never get very long because they are naturally worn down by pavement in our backyard. It's worth a try. |
