| Our newest family member...and some advice please. Hi Everyone!! We are so excited to finally get our little girl. We got her about a week and a half ago and she is just perfect! I am so thankful to Kirista from South East Texas Yorkies. Our little munchkin is about 16 weeks old and her potty training was going so well, but now it has taken a complete 180! I know its still too early to expect anything, but I was wondering if anyone out there trained their dogs on wee wee pads....how did you do it? Any advice? Also, do they get confused when they see a blanket or a carpet and think they can pee on that? Would love some direction!! Thanks! |

YT 2000 Club Member | congrats on your new baby!! if she is already going outside, then I would keep taking her out to avoid confusion. I have tried the pee pad thing and it didnt work out for us and yes, Tucker started using blankets, towels and any clothing that was on the floor. That is one of the main reasons why I started him outside. It took along time but he at 6 months old has finally got it. I know that some people on here have had great success with pee pad training so maybe they can help you out more. . Regardless on what method you use, you have to be patient and consistant. Find something that works and stick with it. Lots of praise goes along ways and if all else fails, use treats!! good luck!!

| First congrats on the new baby!! We use the pee pad with our baby and she does wonderfully. She doesn't go on blankets or anything else other than her pad. Once she has gone on it she will only use it about 3 or 4 times and then she is done. Bailee was very smart and was very easy to train. Once she pottyed on the floor, where ever that was we would put a pee pad there. Then she would go back to that spot and pee on the pad. Now she only goes on one pee pad in our bedroom in the corner. Yorkies are intelligent breeds but it does take tons of patience and praise and yes of course treats! Hope this helps. Good luck!!! |

| hi, congrats on your new baby! i am too a brand new owner of a yorkie just this sunday! =) anyways, i'm using training pads for ziggy.. & so far he's doing very well. he knows to pee on the pad, & i usually try to supervise when he has to use the bathroom (after he wakes up from naps, or after he eats). Everytime i see him peeing on the pad, i'll give him a treat that he loves & praise him. & for now, it's been working very well. goodluck! |

YT 3000 Club Member | Chester does the potty pads, when Im gone and sometimes at home, and most of the time at home he lets me know he needs to go out. The potty pads have something in them to attract the dogs, so it is different than just a blanket or something. I would do whatever will work the best for you right now. |

| Getting a new puppy is so exciting. Congratulations! From my experience, the best tip I can offer is putting your dog on a schedule and confining her to a small area (exercising pen) in your house until she is potty train. I found putting my dog on a schedule and using the leash helped me monitor his behavior. My dog loves to wonder and investigate. I am currently using the leash to teach him not to wonder off while I watch TV. In addition, I use the leash to avoid getting unwanted presents in my game room. When he potties on the pad, I cheer for him in an enthusiastic voice that makes him zoom all around the room. Find the one thing that makes your dog happy (cheer, snack, or game) and do it when she potties on the pad. |

| Congrats on your new baby!! Yes, potty training takes a lot of time and patience. you have to keep a strict schedule and be consistant. She is still a puppy so there will be accidents and it is to be expected. So just give it a time and enjoy puppy kisses.lol

| It took Baxter a good year to "house-train". He goes outside and not on pads. I had to watch him like a hawk for a full year. It will get better eventually. Hang in there and congratulations on the new arrival. |
