| Forced To Leave Pets Behind I have been watching the news and now anyone left in New Orleans are being forced to leave. I guess a good portion of those left are staying because they can't take their pets. Some police officer just said 'Oh yeah, we sympathize with these people about their pets but, too bad, they still have to leave them behind'. I do not for the life of me understand why the pets have to be left behind. What do you all think of this?

| It is terrible. I'm not sure what the answer is. I know I could never leave my pups behind, but if they are bussing people out and putting them up in shelters, what will they do with the pets? They are not going to allow pets on a bus or in a shelter...it is such a horrible position to be put in. It makes me so sad to even think about it...

| I don't understand either. Pets are family members! If you leave them behind, it's like leaving a sister or a baby behind to take care of themselves. I look at my furbabies and I just sob because I can't imagine being in that position. |

| It breaks my heart every time I see a boat go by a flooded house with dogs or cats on the porches. But, having worked in shelters i the past, unfortunately I understand why it must be done. The animals are as stressed as the humans and their behavior can change in a second. they do not intend to be vicious but behave because they feel so threatened. Also, when food is an issue, humans must be fed first..Animals can transmit diseases also. Would I leave my babies behind? No, I would have taken them and any other living creature and beat feet out of town. Noah's Wish is a rescue group that is working really hard to rescue any and all animals no matter the species. Pray for all of those in need in this sad and terrible time. |

| I am so disgustd with that! I mean, what is wrong with taking them. They can't be any sicker than the people, if that's what they are worried about. Or I'm sure that they could find them temporary placements. I just don't get it. I would be one of those people who refuses to leave if I couldn't take my furbaby. They would literally have to pry him from my arms. I don't care. It makes me so sad and angry to think that those people are faced with a decision like that. I just want to cry.

| Did anyone watch Oprah yesterday? There was a segment where this 24 year old kid was bawling his poor eyes out because they were forcing him to leave his dog of 14 years behind. I mean cmon! He wasn't going to end up going because he just couldn't leave the dog. Fortunately Lisa Ling and this other guy were able to take the dog temporarily and reunite them the next day. Don't I just wish that were the case for all those other poor babies I cried the whole time I was watching that

| How sad.. why can't some shelters rescue them and reunite them with their families later?

Yes, I did tape it and watched it last night! I was sobbing. I felt horrible for both the guy and that dog. Thanks to Lisa Ling - they were reunited the next day! Hooray! At least something good happened.

| That is a sign of moral decay in this country, in a manner of speaking. There is no reason in the world that they cannot set up animal shelters for people's pets if these people cannot afford to go find a home elsewhere to live with their pet. The collars can be labeled with the owner's name and location as well as the pet's name. I call it moral decay because you cannot only respect human life. You must respect all life on this planet.
