How well is your Yorkie potty trained? Hi all, I was just going to inquire about your yorkie's potty training. Demi is about 5 months old and she is getting there, but has accidents still. If you have a full grown yorkie, are they potty trained with no accidents? My cousin had 2 yorkies and they never were potty trained and they died of old age. Just wondering how long we are going to have accidents!

First of all I really wouldn't worry about Demi!! She's doing well. We had two previous yorkies who lived until they were over 14 and once they were over about 9 months had no accidents in the house and we now have 19 month old Gypsy Rose who was 100% at 4 months and Gizzie Chavi aged 7 months. Gizzie wasn't as easy to train as Gypsy was and whereas she'll look at me in a certain way to take her out since a long while, she is at a loss if I am not around... even if I go to the bathroom or something it seems she has to accasionally go right there and then when it comes to pooping! Puddles can wait... so Demi will be fine, praise her like mad and if she has an accident and you catch her do it just act sort of shocked and put her out...! If you don't catch her it's pointless but she sounds as if she's got the plan...!! Ana x

Thanks Demi seems pretty smart. She sits and lays down and we are working on stay. It seems like she goes outside because of timing but it is hard to punish them (you know) because she is so cute and its just not a very big mess. My roommate is going to be getting a Pomeranian that is already litter box trained, have you ever heard of this?

I think at one year old Yoda was good at not having any accidents. Demi sounds like she's doing good, just keep at it!

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | brownie and kayko were both potty trained at 3 months but i think it depends on the owner cause we were always on top of them and from the day we got them we made them go outside we dont believe in the pads i think it delays there outside training unless you dont want the to go out side and only on the pads good luck to you |

Litter Trained My Tini is litter trained. She was trained already when I got her from the breeder. The Second Nature dog litter and pan are what she uses. This is actually quite cool since she just goes to her litter box when ever she needs to go. This comes in really nice since you don't have to go out in the cold and snow late at night or early in the morning etc, she just goes there. She also has a pack and play where her bed is and where she goes when I am not home. She has her bed, food, water and litter box in there. I use this setup that the breeder recommended since I brought her home. It works great! I have been really happy with her progress. She still has accidents, but not as much as she used to. I got her when she was 10 weeks and now she is just over 6 months old. There are issues with the litter though. It makes it a pain when you take her to visit others homes. I got a pack of disposable litter pans for this purpose at petsmart. They are made of some kind of really thick paper board product. Then I have to pack up her litter and her disposable litter boxes when we go to someones house. Once we get to the house, before I take her out of her travel crate, I setup her food and water and her litter box and show her where it is right away and then she knows where she is supposed to go. Hope this is helpful! Joanne

Archie's 9 months old and he's been pretty much 100% trained since he was 6 or 7 months old. I got him when he was 5 months. He goes outside but there is one wee wee pad in the bathroom in case he has to go in the middle of the night or during emergencies. For some reason, he started going in the bathroom after figuring out that my boyfriend went there to pee. He even started going against the toilet bowl, so we just put a wee wee pad in there in case he has to go in the middle of the night or in an emergency. But he doesn't really use it too much. Dogs tend to go in the same spots over and over again, and although we clean it up and we can't smell it, they can. So, I got Nature's Miracle, which erases the smell to them and they won't continue going in the same places over and over again. But hang in there...it takes a while for them to develop a full control of their bladder. But if you keep reinforcing that they are supposed to go in a certain place, and praise them when they do, they get the idea.

Snoodles was a little brat with potty training. She would squat right in front of us as if to say, so , what you gonna do about it? Would take her out, would go, come inside and go again on the floor. BUT! She is finally trained! She was aabout 9 months old and is now 1 year and 1/2 month old. So, keep it up! Your making progress! This was the hardest dog I ever had to train. I Don't know why! Stubborn, maybe! And I don't think their bladders mature as fast as other dogs!

Mybirdys2003, thank you SO MUCH for that input!!! Bo is exactly the same way. My husband and I had him on our bed the other night and he just squatted right in front of us and peed!! We were just incredulous and my husband said "I don't know why he thinks he can do that!" Some days I am so discouraged but I researched Yorkies before I bought one and expected a hard time housebreaking. So I just plan to keep on keepin' on!!
