| Help Me Decide! Hi, I'm a new member here. I joined because I've been wanting a Yorkie forever. In December I bought a house so I finally could get one, but I made the decision to wait for April because I have 5 weeks off from work, that I'd like to use to get the puppy settled in and started on training. So now that my time off is just 3 weeks away I'm in active search mode. I've been reading up on yorkies but it can still be hard when you see adorable little puppies to think about which one has the best features, etc. A couple days ago I just found a breeder very nearby with females available (I want a female). She just sent me pictures, so I want help with whether these puppies look nice and like they meet the breed standard. They are currently 7 weeks old. I haven't seen them in person yet but that'll be my next step. She asks $1500 for females, and there's a non-refundable deposit so I want to be sure when I go see them. I would like my yorkie to be around 5 lbs. or under. How big do these look like they'll get? I don't want to pay $1500 for a yorkie that'll be 7+ lbs. You can also see the parents, Tigger and Rico, on her website: D&T's Yorkshire Angels Last edited by Wylie's Mom; 03-23-2009 at 05:11 PM. Reason: Remove phone # |

| I think they're adorable. I know there is a thread on here about purchasing a puppy. It tells you what questions to ask and what to look for. $1500 is a lot of money to spend, so I would be very picky!!! They are adorable...there's no way to guess size by pics. At least I can't Good Luck and to YT!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | WELCOME! What are the current weights of the pups? You can only guess at adult wts - but one rule of thumb is tripling their 8 week weight or doubling the 12 wk weight. Also, you could ask the weight of parents and the grandparents. The babies are very darling, but I will say that their ears look a little out of standard to me, is it just me? If you're willing to pay $1500, you could probably find a yorkie from a show breeder.

| I haven't asked about weights, but was planning to when I went to see them in person. I know from her website that the dad is 4.9 lbs, not sure about mom. I think they're very cute, but ears do seem to stand out just a tad. But they are only 7 weeks, might they grow into them? |

| Thanks for the responses! She just posted new info on the pups on her site, and I think based on that one of the pics she sent me was actually a male. She must have sent me the wrong one. But the one of the pics that I fell in love with is a girl and the one that's smallest. Here are the puppies with weights: Puppies Born 01/16/2009 Hopefully I can go see them soon. I think I want Star. But Cupcake is really cute too. |

| Please see my website for lots of good yorkie info, how to buy a puppy, ect... Crown Royal Yorkshire Terriers Also, no ethical breeder will guarantee a dogs size or color as an adult when it is a puppy. I have seen tiny pups grow into 15 pound dogs, and my own little Cricket was the largest puppy I ever had, and as an adult she weighs only 3.8 pounds! There are no guarantees with yorkie pups. Sue |

| The female puppies are currently 1.1 lb and 1.8 lb. She definitely seems like a good breeder. I am a little concerned about the ears, but only one person has said they don't look standard. And anyway I'm not planning to show or anything, it's just going to be a loved pet. I just want to get a good quality dog for $1500. Thanks everyone for the input! |

| This is a hard say. I don't know how much you know about what testing you should make sure that the breeder did. If you like I can e-mail you what I've learned. I decided to go with rescue as it's hard to find a breeder who does all the testing. You need to see what health guarantee they offer. Sorry, I didn't go to the web site as it's just to nice outside today and I just wanted to send you my opinion.

Here is what her website says: "Parents have been Veterinarian examined for Eyes, Ears, Heart Murmurs, Lungs, Legs and Hernias and have been declared free of defects." I was also going to ask about liver shunt testing. Is there anything else I should ask? She has a health guarantee until the dog's 1st birthday. | |

Please, remember that the vet works for her...she pays the vet for services. If the vet doesn't go along with basic requests, she may take her business else where. You will want to ask what testing she had her vet do to certify these things. And the one year health guarantee doesn't impress me as some of these illnesses don't show up until the pup is over a year of age. Here's a link to the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America: Yorkshire Terrier club of America Look under Health for recommendations on testing. It's an interesting site. Filled with tons of information. Please, know I'm not saying this breeder is a bad breeder, but if she's not showing her dogs and breeding only champion dogs....ones that a judge says is the perfect example of the breed....then I would NEVER pay that much for a puppy from this lady. I'm just trying to save you possible heartache with puppy illnesses. I'm not at all saying that she's a bad breeder. Just trying to help you educate yourself and not take the first puppy that comes along. Good luck!!!
