YT 1000 Club Member | grrr to burrs Finally we're having some nice weather here so I was letting Roxie run around the yard while hubby and I took down the Christmas lights. She was really enjoying the day having a blast then it all came crashing down. She got too close to the edge of the yard where some thicker brush grows (then it's 65 feet downhill to the river). She had burrs all tangled up in her fur. Those things are awful with her fine hair. The hair just wraps and wraps around it and it's a mess. She's had them before but it's still never fun. So I put her in the sink and got them wet and saturated them with her conditioner. Then just started working at them. I always get them out and try to be as gentle as I can but ever since she's been sulking and walking low to the ground and cowering around. But she's laying here next to me and when she breaths in she keeps shaking. Then just now I put my hand on her and was talking to her and she got up and ran back to my room. Do you think she's just mad over the burrs or what? |

| Aw.... poor thing. I don't have any answers for you, but I just wanted to second your "grrr to burrs." It can get pretty windy where we live in the desert (think tv tumbleweed towns) and we get these weird little twig burrs in our yard constantly. This is one of the many reasons we choose to keep Nikko's hair cut short. So at least they don't get stuck in his fur anymore, but he does still try to eat them (?!?!!). Grrr to burrs! | Oh gosh, I hope she's just sulking. Do you think any more pieces could be stuck in her? I sure hope not! I know when my skin kids got burrs last summer, they were complaining that it stung for at least a couple of hrs, so maybe it's still sensitive to her. I hope she gets over it soon, poor little thing.

| I agree! Burrs are horrid. We moved into our house two years ago (first owner and it was a cow pasture before) and the stickers out here are horrible. We have a no shoes in the house and a no walking on the grass rule. Our yorkie loves to play outside but within steps of stepping off the concrete or rocks is limping around. I have to keep her fur short and am constantly having to check between the pads of her feet. We have tried everything to get rid of them but they just keep spreading! I had one SMALL patch of grass that was still sticker free but it appears that they are starting to take root there too. |
