| please help my girlfriend bought a morkie today. i know nothing about these dogs but the puppy has no teeth yet. the breeder swears the dog is six weeks old and that he has had the first round of shots. the breeder said that yorkies baby teeth grow later than other breeds. is there any truth to that statement? any advice on what extra care this puppy may need if he is actually 4 weeks instead of 6? thanks. |

| Oh boy. I don't think that he's 6 weeks if he doesn't have teeth. Missy had teeth when I got her at 7 weeks of age. Your puppy is going to need extra care whether it be 6 weeks or less. I would start researching about hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and pick up a tube of Nutrical to treat him if need be. This is the problem that I had with Missy after getting her at 7 weeks of age, and it's SCAREY. I know the Nutrical saved her life. You can lose them in an instant. As far as feeding a puppy that young, hopefully the other more experienced members will come along to offer you some advice. It will be important that this puppy eats often. Good Luck! Please post pics when you can.

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | Care for your young puppy Well, a yorkie's temporary ("puppy") teeth start erupting at one month, so if there are NO teeth, then the puppy is probably 4 weeks. You should take the puppy to the vet to be sure Yes, you will need a lot of special care for such a young puppy. It is not good for a puppy that young to be weaned, but sometimes it does happen (like if a mother's milk dries up, or if she won't take care of the puppy). You need to get some puppy formula (powdered puppy milk replacer) and mix it with kibble (small kibble, I recommend Royal Canin Mini Baby Dog - it's for weaning to 8 weeks). Slowly start puttin in less and less formula over a period of a couple of weeks until the puppy is just eating the kibble. Puppies that young need to eat about 3 times a day. - More info coming soon, I'm sure.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | No there isn't any truth in that statement. You need to feed puppy...a gruel. You can process kibble with a food processer so it's very fine. Mix that with a high quality canned puppy food and add warm water. You want it very soupy. Instead of water you can substitute puppy milk replacer...that's available at pet stores. Warm it all a bit. Do not feed it to her cold. Make sure she is eating frequent meals...every 4 hours or so. Keep her warm and do not let her get chilled. If she has been given an vaccinations...it's too early for them to be effective. She still has immunity from her mother and will need the vaccine done again. Good luck with your new baby.

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | And... Also, please get an appointment with your vet ASAP to get as much info as you can about making sure your little baby survives. You may need a heating blanket to keep him warm at night. You'll also have major issues with any attempt at house breaking for quite a while. Additionally, I noticed that you live in Arkansas.I can't find any thing that says Arkansas has a law prohibiting the sale of an underage puppy - does anyone else know???

| Hi. I'm not sure about the stimulation part, some of the breeders on here may be able to answer that. I had a five week old Yorkie that came to me very sick, so I do have a little knowledge on the care. I had to wing it a bit when I first had her but she's now five years old and perfect so I guess I did something right. LOL. The first thing I would suggest is taking your little one to the vet for a full check up. The second thing I would reccomend is (a) getting some puppy milk from your petstore and also a little nursing bottle. You may not need it but it's good to keep on hand. What I did was feed wet food, but I also added some of the puppy milk either into it or in a small bowl and let her drink it. (b) I would get some nutrical and give it to her once in the morning, once in the afternoon and once at night. Just a little ribbon size is good. This will keep her sugar levels up and prevent any Hypoglycemic episodes. I would not take her outside. I would use a wee wee pad. Too many germs and too cold for such a little one. I can't think of anything else right now but PLEASE REPORT this breeder for selling her pups so young. Good Luck. Elaine |

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | Exactly what I was going to say (about the wet wash cloth). You'll also have to be sure to keep his bottom clean, at that age, they are very prone to getting their poo stuck to their bums, which can prevent other poo from coming out, and that can cause other problems. So, use a warm wash cloth and wipe his bottom after each time he has a bowel movement. Also, based on the breeders reputation thus far, you'll probably need to be concerned about worms and other parasites. Ask your vet about a wormer. You can get non-prescription wormers, but I'd ask your vet for some, just to be sure. Because of the potential for worms, make sure you keep the floor cleaned and any poo spots disinfected. Puppies are supposed to get de-wormer weekly from 3 - 6 weeks while in the care of their breeder.

| Great help. We appreciate everyones responses. Max is going to the vet at 7:30 in the morning, we'll see if we can't nurture this little guy and take better care of him than the breeder. |

| Good update Just wanted to thank you again for your help last night! Didnt get much sleep cause i was worried about the little guy! Good news though...Took him to the vet this morning and he doesnt have worms (as of now). I have some worming stuff that tastes like bananas to give him. I do have to tube feed him since he wont take the bottle, and i'll have to do that for a couple of days. He has gone pee several times since we last wrote in (Hooray ~ never thought i'd be excited about the dog peeing and pooping on the floor) He also pooped once ~ we are working on that! The doc says that he is around 5 weeks old...We are going to make this little guy stronger than ever! The doctor also wasnt concerned at this point about hypoglycemia...that's good! They gave him some fluids to prevent dehydration...he isnt at this point but they were concerned that he might get dehydrated because he isnt eating much. Thanks again! |

| I am so glad to hear everything is okay. That breeder needs to be reported. Is a morkie AKC?

| Please be very careful with the tube feeding. If you are not experienced it can go into his lungs and kill him. I don't know much about it but do know my brother had to do this with a couple of kittens and unfortuanetly one did not make it. Just my oppinion but I would try hard to get him to eat the wet food so as to avoid the tube feeding. If he will eat the wet food, and he will drink water you can add the puppy milk into a bowl which essentially will do the same for him as feeding him with a bottle or tube would do. Hope he does well. Elaine |

| No a Morkie is a mix of a yorkie and maltese and not a pure breed dog. Poor little guy, that "greeder" needs to be slapped
