| Does this happen to you? I'm just wondering if any of you have the same issue or am I just overreacting? Whenever I have Maddie out for a walk, in my yard playing, or out running errands with me I constantly have complete strangers coming up to me to play with her. I don't care if it is a person I know or just someone making a comment - but I have no clue who these people (including kids) are. They want to play with her, hold her, take her off the lease, and one even wanted to feed her!! My gosh! I'm getting to the point where I am not as polite as I used to be. Any good comebacks for these people when they hop out of their vehicle and ask "Can I hold your adorable little doggy?" Sorry about the vent, but it's getting tough to go out to my mailbox in the morning!!!

| Welcome to Yorkie-Mommyhood!! Learn to say "No" ... "We don't let children hold her" ... "I don't let others hold her" .... "She cannot be off her leash" ... "If you want to sit on the ground, she will play with you ... do not restrain her"!! I'm sure there are lots of others that I learned to say! I made it clear to everyone we knew and our children & grandchildren, before we ever brought Toto home that there would be rules! Once everyone saw that I meant it, everything was fine and they saw that it was for Toto's own good. Don't be afraid or too shy to set guidelines and if they aren't followed, simply remove Maddie. You aren't over-reacting, you're simply doing what's best for your baby!

| I get the same thing. Sometimes I'm more tolerant than other times. I don't mind when people come by to pet her..but it irks me when they want to hold her. I NEVER let them hold her. Unless it's the people at the small dog park, because I hold their babies..hehe...just be frank about your feelings. I am.

| I just say "Mini is such a wiggly girl that she'll wiggle right out of your arms and get hurt". I never, ever take her off the leash, I just tell them that's she's fast as lightening and might get run over. I know they don't mean any harm, but one fall and that would be it. So, I try to make it like, thanks for liking her, but it's better for her to be on the ground on a leash. ONce I explain she will absolutely wiggle free, they usually understand. |

| When an adult that's a dog lover comes up to us (usually logan goes to them) I will let them hold him if I get a good feeling about them. Logan doesn't really give people a choice he pratically climbs into people's arms. But he's still on the leash even while they're holding him. As far as kids go I will hold him and let them pet him. If I do not know the kid they do not get to hold him or even play with him on the ground. some little kids can a puppy in a tight squeeze so fast and i just don't want to get in a situation where i have to yell at someone elses kid.

| Yup, Yorkies are just people attraction magnets! You can always say something like, "it's awkward for her to play with strangers" or "she gets scared of strangers" or "we only allow new people to hold her while sitting on a couch and inside" or "sorry, but no!". Don't ever let anyone make you feel bad because you are not letting them play with YOUR Yorkie. Some people have the idea that it's their right to play with your Yorkie, and that's just simply absurd. We almost never let anyone hold Yoda when we are out, just because there is a possibility that he will wiggle out of their arms (and the fact that someone could try to kidnap him if they are holding him). As for off-leash, that's very dangerous too as strangers may make Yoda feel uncomfortable, which could lead to anything. Mainly we allow kids and adults to bend down and pet him gently, or we just start to walk away. For senior citizens that want to meet Yoda, we will pick Yoda up and bring him close to them so they can pet him and look at him. |

| Yes!!!! I totally feel your pain Kerri Ann. People can be so rude! They stick their faces right in Matise's face, and their hands. I hate it! I don't know when the last time was that they washed their hands or face for that matter. I was walking Matise one day in Petsmart and I stopped to look at someting and someone put their foot (which had a flip flop on it)(yuck) over to Matise's face. I almost killed them, I said do you mind getting your disgusting foot outta my dogs face and I gave them a look to kill. I mean just because I have a little, cute dog doesn't give them any right to forget themselves. It's not like I am running a petting zoo.. I don't do that to their kids or babies. I wish people would just think before they act. Sorry I am a little fed up about this too!

| People magnet! That is so true. Most of the people that want to see my babies are dog lovers anyway, so I usually don't have a problem. Where I do have a problem is little kids wanting to pick them up. Like most everyone is saying, I just say, "she's very wiggly and will leap out of your arms" and don't let them. It's fine for people to pet them, IMO-it also helps socialize the dog better.

I agree with everything you said. I really only have a problem with children wanting to pick up Mac & Mellie, especially my daughters friends.

| Thank You Thank you for the reassurance - I don't like other poeple handling her and if she's off the leash (rarely) it can be hard to catch her because she like to play!! I think the best answer will be "no" and I don't have to expalin anything else. YT is great!! For me, I still need a little reassurance with my furbaby.

| I don't let anyone touch my skin or fur kids. When my son was little i was at Macy's changing him, and as I was walking out this lady grabed his little face and kissed him on the cheek. It feaked him out. He was only 7 or 8 months at the time. I was speachless for a moment and just looked at her. I could not believe she did it. The moment passed and I tore at her. I was so pissed! I also get people who come up to me wanting to touch Gus all the time. I was at the park at one of my sons football games and these kids were crowding around Gus and wanting to pick him up and play with him. I told them no that they were scaring him, so I picked him up and sat him on my lap. The kid must have touched my leg or something, so Gus nipped at his hand. This kid carried on and on,,, There wasn't even a mark, but here comes his mother telling me that I was only out for attention. And if I didn't want the attention then I should leave the dog at home. I wanted to punch her in the nose, but I turned to her and said. I'm sorry for my dog nipping your kid. But don't ever tell me what to do. I then turned to the kid and asked him if he was ok. I then told him that if he wanted to pet Gus then ask and don't grab at him. I seen them all the time and never had a problem with them grabing, but he did come to me a few times asking to pet Gus. I told him if it was ok with your mother you can sit next to me and will put Gus on your lap. Him and Gus became good friends. The mother stood a b and gave me dirty looks. I am amazed on how kids are more mature then some parernts. I always tell people in a nice way,,, He doenst take to strangers too well so please don't touch him.

| This happens to me a lot to but I like it as it is a very good chance to really socialize my Ruby. I won't allow people to take her of the leash it must be in ma hands at all times as I fear some one will hold her and runaway with her. So thats not definitely not an option. |

| With my older dog, most people ask.. but the puppy they just grab and get in her face... I want her to be a therapy dog, and am trying to expose her to as many different situations as I can... but only if the people ask first. I don't let many hold her because she is squirmy. My older dog (2) since becomming a mama is protective now, and lets everyone know she is there watching them, but she keeps her distance. I try and keep in my mind how I am when I see a cute dog, I usually ask the owner if I can pet the pup, or tell them how cute they are... so I keep my patients with people when they ask me |

| I tell them she bites. She doesn't, never has, wiggles all over to get to strangers - they are all "Her Friends" and they all come to see "Her" - but I just tell them she bites and they back off and act like people should around a strange dog. I don't think it's good even with pups as good as Sabrina. You don't know if they have rabies or something! (LOL) People - all of them - need to be taught how to approach dogs.
