| Meet Flo x Hello everyone. I have just joined this forum and thought I would quickly say Hi from England. We got Florence (aka Florrie, Flo or Stinky - will explain this nickname later) in October. She is justs about 7 months now. She has fitted in really well with our family which already included two gerbils, two pet rats and Scooby who is our gorgeous German Shepherd x rotti. It is amazing how Scooby and Flo play together - they either charge round the house after one another or he lies on his back while she jumps all over him nipping his ears and jowls! - he loves her and is so patient and gentle considering his size! Scooby was my first dog and being a gentle giant I was surprised just how feisty Yorkies can be for their size! Florence is a real sweetie but very gutsy! One of our problems is her stubborness as she is still having "accidents" indoors which I feel she should have grown out of by now. Trouble is we think she has got it and we don't have an accident for days and then hey presto! a wet patch or a little package is left in the corner. I guess we will have to persevere and put more time and effort into training ourselves - I have a crate from when she was very little but feel a bit mean using it now. Anyway, she is lovely and I have noticed that it is only the people who have never owned a Yorkie who dismiss them as being "little yappers" or "snappy". People who have had them basically seem to love the breed and I can see why! The only other problem we have is that she has generalized Dermodex for which we have just started treatment - hence her other nickname of Stinky. It is such a shame because she is so friendly but people don't like to hold her too long because she smells so strong. But hopefully the treatment will sort her out and she will start smelling "normal doggy" soon! Anyway, I said this would be a short note but have gabbled on so all for now. Thanks for reading x |

| Welcome to YT We have quite a few UK members. Flo sounds like a great girl with a fabulous fur-brother! She also sounds like a typical Yorkshire Terrier - or is that terror! Yorkies are somewhat hard to housebreak. There is a lot of good info in our Training section that you might want to read. And crate training is not mean - a lot of dogs love their crates and the security they represent, as well as consistency. Glad you are both here

| Welcome to YT - and yes, we *do* love our little terrors - errr, terriers . They are very unique. In my household, there is an 11 year old American Staffordshire - commonly called a pitbull. And he is extremely patient with the antics of (first) puppies and (now) small demons . Good luck with the mange; once you have it under control, life will be good again. As far as the accidents ... my house has a doggy door. When we're home, they can come and go as they please. But when we have to leave, we lock the door and they're stuck inside. I have a piddle pad by the door (and another in our bedroom where they sleep at night) for those times when they just can't seem to hold it. They don't potty on the floor anymore now that they have an "acceptable" place to go when they can't hold it any longer. Maybe that would help? Florence was my mother-in-law's name, an old Latin name meaning "flowers". Your little girl may not smell like one now, but just you wait Congrats on your new baby; love her long and well. |

| Thank you all x Thank you for all your welcome notes. I will definitely read up on some of the potty training tips. I like the idea that Florence means "Flower" and hopefully, as you say, she will smell less mangy and more flowerful soon! Best wishes to all x |
