| New question RE: Nahla and Spaying I have made Nahla an appointment to be spayed on Friday even though she is in the beginning stages of her heat cycle. I have a question though. I was advised by the vet to keep Nahla and Mufasa (my male) away from each other after I bring Nahla home because she will continue the heat cycle. How can she continue the heat cycle if she has been spayed? Now I'm trying to figure out how to keep them away from each other. I thought spaying would take care of everything. Why do I need to keep them away from each other AFTER the operation? I'm so confused. |

| Maybe he thinks they would play roughly and it would affect the incision I dont know. When they spay they remove the ovaries and the uterus so she cant get pregnant.

| If she has already started the heat process would the hormones still be there that drive dogs crazy???? That's the only thing I can think of. Right now Nahla doesn't let Mufasa get near her (like always) and I know if she were to be able to CONTINUE the heat process that would change and she would allow him to get close to her (for lack of better words). After she is spayed I don't see her even letting him get close to her AT ALL. Especially after having had surgery. |

| Now that could be the case. She could still have the hormones and the smell and he is worried your male will try to mount her and hurt her

The hormones will still be there so that is why he said that to your. She will not be able to get pregnant though.

| I would NEVER, NEVER have a dog spayed while they are in heat. There is a much greater chance of bleeding if done during a heat cycle. I would wait til about 3 weeks after her heat cycle is over or 6 more weeks |

| Nahla, hope you feel better soon! Yikes! Maybe that's why the doc said to keep Mufasa away from her.
