| Any other single doggie moms? (or dads) Just wanting to hear from someone who understands me right now! I am so aggravated. Twice this week I have had friends get pissy with me about not wanting to go do something with them because of needing to be home with Wookie. They just don't get it, even though I tell them its just like them having obligations to thier kids. Then its not even believeable that I am comparing my dog to their children!! I mean I appreciate them thinking about me, and they are just wanting to be there for me at a rough time, but they don't get it!!! I feel horrible that he has to be home by himself for so long during the day while I am at work (and I don't work close by, its a good 45 min drive). Not to mention that he holds his potty!!! Not good for him! I am all he has, and it is up to me to take care of him and I that includes spending time excercising and stimulating him. Not just let him out, feed him, then leave again. So on Mon-Thurs, I don't go do anything in the afternoons. I spend time with him. Plus I WANT to! I love being with him!!!!! I have told people I have no problem going to do things on Fri night if its early (I have to work early Sat morning for a couple hours) or Sat nights, when I don't have to work early Sunday morning and when I can spend the biggest part of the day with Wookie. I just get looks like I have 5 heads or something. And you should hear the comments I get if I am asked to go out of town or do an overnighter somewhere! If I can't take my boy, I don't wanna go!! We have only spent one night apart since I have had him and that was because they wouldn't let me stay in the hospital with him!!! Anyone get what I am saying......sigh....

| I have learned over the years that friends with children with or without pets have help either a spouse or an older child to help, so they do not understand that you have a living breathing animal that is helpless with out you. So most of the time they don't get it, we can expalin all we want and unless your speaking to a single parent you might as well stop trying. don't worry you are not alone there are plenty of us. |

| I totally understand! If you lived near me, you AND Wookie could come over and visit! Wouldn't we have fun! Maybe you need to find some other friends who have pets too! |

| Single mom I completely understand!!!! I am the same way! I've had Max for about a month now and if I can't will not stay out overnight if I can't bring him and I feel really bad if I've been gone for more than 8 hours. I have heard all the comments and the stories...I guess until they've walked in our shoes they would never understand |

| I agree with all of you. If Walker can't come along, it's no fun for me either. Yeah, and what about your friends coming over to your place to hang out or maybe even working around your schedule? it doesn't sound like you're flat out refusing to spend any time with them. People with small kids can't just drop everything and go party, so why is it a big deal when you have a dog? I totally understand wanting to be at home with your furbaby when he's been alone in the house all day and is sooooo excited for you to finally come home and play with him. Why get a dog, if you don't plan on being around him? Yep, unless you're a dog person....you won't understand. Don't worry about it. If they're really your friends they will get over it.

| People won't understand unless they are going thru the same thing. It is hard for me to leave my Yorkie too even for a few hours. I worry that he is lonely at home, or just missing me.

I am with you! I am 26 yrs old, and my boyfriend is 39 yrs old. I moved in with him in July since where I was living I couldnt afford it anymore, and i didnt want to move in with my parents again, and apartments here are jst way expensive, so Brian asked me to move in with him, the day after I moved in I got Fiona, and all my friends are not too happy with me since I havent been out in forever! Puppies/dogs are just like kids, and they are a responsiblity to take care of, so thats usually what im doing on the weekends. I love being with my girl, she is my life! Don't let them get you down!!!!!

| Totally understand! My friends don't understand it. He's like having a child! Especially with Jackson still being such a young pup.

| I understand completely! I was widowed 3 years ago at the age of 48. I got Lucy and Rebel within a year of my husband's death and I am constantly hearing, "you need to start going out, you need a life." I DO have a life. It's MY life and the one I've chosen for myself. I go to work and come home to my son, who has multiple challenges, and my babies. I'm not interested in dating or socializing with people who aren't in the same place in life that I am. My parents don't understand - they're worried that I've "shut down", but can't seem to realize that I am content the way things are. I'd rather be home..............

| Single mom, like you Hi I lost my husband to cancer a few years ago and then took care of my mom with Alzheimer's until she died 2 years ago. My reward was to get myself a little Yorkie puppy. I have lots of friends who are not dog people and they can't understand why I don't like leaving her alone - sometimes I take her in a carry bag because she is small and when I go for coffee with friends, no one notices that I have a dog. Calleigh is full grown and 3.9 lbs and she is my pride and joy and I love her so much. I don't know what I did without her. In the house, she follows me everywhere and if I get up to get a cup of tea, she jumps off the couch and follows. It is so cute!!!! I am not lonely and have lots of friends, but I love being with Calleigh and my other two dogs, Molly & Bonnie. Linda |

| Single mom too! I've had Gracie for about 2 months now. My mom and sister really help out a lot with her so she isn't alone very often. Every once in a while, she has to stay home alone while I go to work. I only live 5 minutes away from my work so I come home at lunch time to check on her. People at work say "can't you leave her home alone?" "why do you have to check on her?" It's not that I HAVE to come home, it's that I WANT to come home. When I'm having a rough day at work, it's so nice to come home and have Gracie thrilled to see me. We'll play for a little while and eat lunch together. It's like therapy for me in the middle of the day. I think that maybe some people don't understand because they don't have a dog.
