| New here I hope you all accept us here, Jackson is a Yorkshire/Dachsund, he looks like a yorkie and acts like a yorkie he is 4 months old and weighs a whopping 10.8 lbs, The only dachsund trait he has are his ears and his legs, the rest of him is all Yorkie. I love my JackJack to death, I am new to the smaller breeds and was wondering if there may be somethings I need to know about the care of them. He alreayd had his frist trip to the groomer and he did wonderful there. Is passing gas a normal yorkie trait? He tends to do it quite often, is there a dietrary need for the smaller breeds? I have had medum to large dogs in the past and Jackson is my first small breed, any advice would be great. |

Awe, you have a DORKIE!? I love them, and think they are super cute!!!! of course you are WELCOMED here! This is a great site!!!!! passing gas is normal, however, it could be the food your are feeding him, that isnt agreeing with his tummy. I have two dachshunds at my parents house, and they are wonderful dogs, Fiona is the VERY first yorkie i've owned, and i've learned a lot from her. I would just tell you with this breed, upkeep is key, and I always make sure fiona has a jacket on when it is cold outside! other than that, I really feel like yorkies are great dogs, and think they are big dogs!!!!!! Good Luck!

| Thanks for the warm welcome! I am having som uch fun with jackjack which it's short for jackson of course, I only call him that when he is in trouble. I have to share this funny adadote though.. I am crate training him, but yesterday I decided to gate him off in a smaller room for theday while I was at work, I came home from work and found millions well seemed that way of our shoes sprewed all over the living room floor. I was like huh? I went over to where I left jackJack and to find him not there! he came running out of our bedroom with our other dog, apparently the little sucker jumped the gate! LOL He is only 4 months old.... he so makes me laugh! I have read up on the smaller breeds and Jack has a bigger wardrobe then me LOL I have so spoiled this dog! he thinks he is a human baby now LOL I call him he comes running and jumps er flys into my lap I love it! Iam trying to find out which is better for their little tummies, wet or dry food, guess its trial and error huh? Ihave him on an all natural diet Natural balance, I try not to give my dogs any beef what so ever. Jacks tummy is a tad different from my boogles, she will eat anything and it does not bother her. Jack drinks constantly, and eats like its going out of style so I have learned to pick up the dish of food after each feeding, but leave the water accessible all the time.

| Welcome to YT! Glad to have you & Jackson here. Can I ask what you are feeding him? Finding the right foods for these little ones is probably one of the most important things we can do for them. Mine never struggle with gas - I don't think it's normal for yorkies

| Well, Natural Balance is a pretty good food. Some would recommend something else. Maybe you might want to try something else just to see if it changes how gassy he is. There is a sticky thread at the top of the Health & Diet section with a list of dog food companies that you can write for samples. I have emailed a lot of companies - most are incredibly generous. Also, in the Health & Diet section you will find a lot of info on home cooking if you want to try that - although finding the right balance of food & supplements is so important - it does require a good deal of research
