| Overwhelmed! But lovin' it Hello fellow YTer's I'm Mel and I've been poking around here reading post for a couple week now. I have found my babies and they're being shipped in next weekend (a boy and a girl) Myself and the kids are excited beyond belief, the hubby is not so much but he's the type to not fall until the snuggle in and steal his heart LOL In all the excitement I feel overwhelmed, especially about food, but many other aspects of becoming a new Yorkie owner. What else do you recommend as must have's? So far here is my list ... Innonova EVO puppy food wee wee pads pack and play playpen Nutri-cal to keep on hand for emergencies harnesses and leashes tiny toys a couple sweatshirts apiece (we're in Maine after all as I tell Dh) food dishes although from reading here I see a lot won't eat out of them shampoo (Minksheen?) grooming brish comb and nail clippers bully sticks for supervised chew time anything else? I want to be fully prepared but also have pretty much broken the bank already by falling for 2 pups instead of just one We have a Boston Terier at home who I don't remember freaking out about as badly for 6 yrs ago and we also have my mother's rat terrier that we're babysitting for another couple weeks and 2 house cats (one I'm not concerned about but the younger one is known to pick on the Boston so I need to keep a close eye on her) Thanks in advance! Mel

| Hi! Your list looks good. You may want to add some Bitter Apple spray for areas they might find tasty to chew on. And you can also get some Natures Miracle spray from the pet stores. This is amazing stuff to use if accidents happen. For grooming a fine tooth metal flea comb works well to get to any tangles that are close to the skin. And a slicker brush does a great job of finishing off the coat. Gracie Ruth has very cottony hair and it tangles easily, so I have a detangler spray that I use. None of mine have every had a problem eating out of a bowl. Boo, however, is not fond of the blue color bowl so we got a white one and a tan one and he has no issues with those colors. And Cheerios make a great treat for puppies. G and Yogi both love them. Boo, the mature man that he is , will spit them out and give you a dirty look like you tried to poison him. I buy the tiny little scrunchies from the Dollar Store to put their top knots up in. If you decide to go with the little groomer rubber bands, just be sure to use a small pair of siccors to cut them out, don't try to take them off and resue them, it'll pull out a lot of their hair. JMHO, I never leave any top knot in over night, I feel the scalp/hair needs time to relax to be healthy. And you'll want to look into something for cleaning their teeth. Yorkies can have a lot of dental issues and if you get them use to having their teeth brushed now, it'll make it easier once their adult teeth come in. Good luck and post some pictures when you can!

| Oh, oh, oh I am very jealous. I love the puppies! P.S. I have three, my kids want me to get one more because I have 4 "skin kids" , boy, girl, girl, boy, so now I have a boy, girl, girl "fur babies" just need that last boy but dh isn't going for it just yet. He wasn't thrilled in the beginning either but now I come in the room and one baby is inside his zippered sweatshirt (because she was cold) he says, and the other 2 are laying on his legs in the recliner. He's a softy. Wow it looks like you are all set to go. If you can raise kids you can do this. haha Most is just common sense, and oh boy am I glad I found this site. Everyone is so nice and very helpful But be careful it is addicting. Please post pictures of your babies when you get them. Can't wait to see. CONGRATULATIONS!!

| Thanks everyone for the welcomes and tips! TeresaM - thanks! I forgot to add toothbrushes to the list and yes! I read here about the Cheerios and since I do have kiddos at home we always have Cheerios (and vegetables and fruit for supplementing the kibble) For detangler, do you use doggie detangler or is the stuff formulated for kids ok? I will post pictures as soon as I can

| Hi there and welcome to YT I would also start looking for a very good vet for these new puppies! Since you Have a dog already, you may already have one! Since these babies are being shipped, one of the first things I'd do is get them examined . How old are they going to be? Where are they coming from? I am just curious. I am glad your going to have the Nutrical ready. These babies will have already been through so much just by shipping, they may need some to help them out from the trip. Heating pads may be a good idea for them too.

| My little girl is coming from Arkansas to arrive Friday the 20th and my little guy is coming from Oklahoma the following night. We tried to arrange same flight but something about only 2 pups per flight and I guess Saturday night there was already another pup scheduled before us. Just means we'll have to spend an extra night in the motel but I'm not complaining since we've never been on a vacation from home before

| Congrats on your babies. My Chloe Primrose is 5 mos and I already am wishing she wasn't so "old", I just love babies!!! For treats I like Gerber Graduates mini fruits. They are bite size, really tiny, I think smaller than bite size and they dissolve easily so not much chewing is needed. I know a lot of people use Cheerios but they gave Chloe P gas. She nearly ran my DH me off the couch! He He. Good luck and enjoy!!!! |

| About your cats When we got our little Laddy our cats thought he was a mouse...They snarled and growled and tried to attack him. We thought it would pass but it didnt so we had to find them new homes...They were outside cats but we couldnt even let Laddy out to potty so you might watch closely for a bit. Gl and welcome to your furbabies and you Last edited by nanahas3; 02-10-2009 at 05:16 PM. Reason: spelling mistake lol |

| Congratulations! Leo completely destroyed every toy we gave him. One of the only toys he has yet to conquer is the Kong Wubba. He really loves that. |
