| Does everyone get "papers" on their dogs? Baxter is eligible for CKC registration. I think those are the letters. I know it isn't AKC. I just didn't see the point in getting them so I didn't. I don't care if he has papers and he certainly doesn't. He's been neutered so it's not like he's going to be a stud muffin! I just wondered if anyone else felt like I do or if everyone gets the paperwork done. |

| I did register my Standard Poodle because I was possibly going to breed her (which I never did and got her fixed). I don't have papers for Teddi. I figured unless you are going to breed them it is not necessary to have.

| I did not register Samson (AKC) because I didn't plan to breed. His parents are registered, but I did not see the point. He has been neutered too. |

| I am with you guys. I knew Wookie was not going to be bred or shown so I didn't spend the money. I had other things to buy, like toys, blankets, clothes, toys, food, toys......

| I did register Ellie. We considered breeding her at first, so that may have been the main reason but in general we just thought it was the thing to do. If I had to do it over again, I would register. You have access to their pedigree for a fee (not sure if you would without registering) and I like the AKC in general, so I am glad to be a part of the whole thing.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think the AKC is the only legitimate American club, and the only one I would bother registering with. The other registries, some closely involved with the commercial pet industry, and others that don't require any proof of the dog's background or proof of breeding rights seem worthless. The other registries don't have any capability to allow breeders to sell dogs with limited registration, and all good breeders should do this. There is no reason to register a dog, it doesn't make it more valuable, but I just wanted to support the work that the AKC is doing, and you do get a cute tag.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | You know the thing that goes on the collar. Says AKC on one side with a number to call on the other side.

| Maybe they didn't do tags 6 years ago.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | You know I can remember tags from way back when, but maybe now the tag only comes if you do the optional lost and found thing.

| I received AKC papers on Bailey because the litter (Bailey and her brother) was registered by the breeder - but I never updated. I know she's 100% Yorkie and thats all that matters to me!!

| I'm not going to bother with papers either. Besides the fact that she's got a funny color, curly hair, floppy ears, and all the NON show qualities I'm also not going to breed her so no point really. I'm just glad she's so different looking, she blends in with the rest of my family hahaha. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | For those of you trying to decide whether or not to register with the AKC, you don't have to be a breeder to register, just a dog lover. The AKC is the only registry that does unannounced routine kennel inspections. Your $20.00 lifetime application fee helps to pay for these inspections as well as the AKC Canine Health foundation, Canine Search and Rescue, DNA profiling, and many other things. The AKC is the only registry that has a list of suspended breeders, and these breeders then go to one of the alternative registries, who have much lower standards for membership.

| All my puppies have their registration papers . Even if they are spayed or neutered . Recently a woman from us came to pick up her little boy and was surprised to see he was registered and papers ready for the transfer of ownership in the U.S.A. All she had to do was to take the little one home with her and gave him the best of cares . |
