| Worried :[ I am hopefully bring home my first yorkie tomorow. I have been reading and I am scared because like it really seems all I am reading is bad stuff with them. I know that yorkies are soposed to live long but you really have to take care of them but really most of what I am reading is problems with them. Any mommys out there with old yorkies? :[ another question. Do all yorkies have problems if they came from a puppy mill. Either a pet store/rescue. Im just so terrified. I dont want to go through heartbreak |

| Hello and welcome!! I want to say congrats on adding a yorkie to your family. I don't want to scare you or tell you they are all bad because they aren't but it does matter where and who you have gotten your baby from! I'm no expert but yorkies do have alot of issues that can come up. From bad knee's to collapsed trachea. I didn't know as much about yorkies as I did before and I must say I regret not doing my research now because my yorkie has had her share of problems. I didn't know how delicate they really were. I was blinded by the cute " teacup " yorkies in ads and on tv. I thought they were so cute! Nobody tells you about the health risks involved. My yorkie isn't super small, shes around 4 lbs but to me that is small and I am finding you need to be pretty darn careful with a 4lber even. The smaller you go the more problems you can run into. They can't climb stairs, they can fall from a very low level and hurt themselves very badly. Surgeries are SOO expensive and unexpected things can happen at any time. Of course this is the scary things. As long as you are aware of all the risks, do your research about where your yorkie is coming from. Make sure they have been vet checked and are healthy I say you don't need to worry so much. I wouldn't go for the tinest dog if you are busy and have children, perhaps a little bigger one. THey are very loyal and loving dogs. They are just like little babies which makes them very attached to their owners, they are so full of love with so many kisses and they just want to be on your lap all day, at least mine is that way! Good luck! |

♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | The only problem I have with mine is she has totally changed my life more than any dog I have owned in the past: 1.Hate leaving her, don't go out with the girls from work, I keep making excuses as they wouldn't understand 2. Been going abroad every year not this year going to a holiday cottage with her, cant wait. 3.Rush home from work every lunchtime just to play with her I could go on but wont bore you She is my baby and I don't see these as problems but some of my friends do lol |

YT 3000 Club Member | I have had chester since 11-02 and he has had mainly skin issues, very sensitive skin and enviromential allergies. He has had no knee issues or anything else. He has a little bit of a sensitive stomach. He weighs 9 lbs and no big issues with him. Every breed has their issues some cancer, knees ,tumors some more than others. They are worth every minute of your life, they bring so much joy and love more than I ever thought possible. |

I love browsing the internet looking for dog friendly cottages, or B&Bs i can holiday in! I'm not bothered about relaxing on a hot sunny beach any more, as long as i have molly with me, im happy. |

| Hey! Congrats on deciding to add a yorkie to your family! You're going to love him/her! I was also worried when we rescued our yorkie from a family that abused her and didn't take good care of her. She's a blessing and doesn't have any problems to speak of other than her abuse issues. She's wonderful an you're really going to be happy, I promise! |

♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | Tia came from a breeder advertising online and she decided to charge me an extra £100 when I viewed her because she was so tiny. I had to pay it as I fell in love with her there and then. The first night she was crying and coughing all night.Rang breeder and told her about the cough and she said it will go on its own.Told her Im taking her to the vet and she went mental saying Sold as seen Im not paying for vet fees bring her back you can have her in a couple of weeks. No way was I doing that she was sleeping in a barn with her little brother (she owned stables)how I wished I got him too. Took her to my vet ,kennel cough was the cause it lasted for 3 weeks and then made a full recovery. I agree it can be worrying getting a new puppy but trust your instincts. They will cherish you forever. |

| Hi! Welcome! It can get overwhelming, but try to keep a positive attitude. Being aware and educated is one of the best defense against serious problems. Enjoy your baby, know what to watch for, take action if something comes up, but mostly just really love and enjoy your puppy. You know how you hear first time parents say, oh our baby won't really change our lifestyle. And those with kids just smile and say, a-hmmm. Well it's really the same with a Yorkie. You are going to be amazed at how your life is going to change, for the better!! I'm getting giddy just thinking about all the fun you are going to have. Please post pictures when you can, and let us know all about him/her.

OMG!! You are me!!!! I absolutely will NOT go out during the week because I feel I need to be home with Wookie. I feel horrible that he has to be home alone so long during the day. You are soooo lucky that you can go home at lunch. I wish I could do that, but I work 45 mins away. I will NOT take a vacation unless I can take Wookie with me! So that limits me to staying home or going to family, and that is fine with me!! But I am like you in that my friends and family don't understand. I think they just see me as the 'crazy dog lady'. But who cares!! That is my baby and we bring so much to each others lives!!! I totally relate to you!!

I think that you see a lot of bad stuff in here, because we are a support group. Most of the time you need support in bad times. We look to each other for answers to problems. But if you read each post about bad things, there is sooooo much positive too! I have had dogs throughout my life, but nothing, NOTHING could have prepared me for Wookie. I never knew I could love something so much, or have it affect my whole life. Yorkies are very special. I think they do require a little more care though because of it. Also, any breed of dog you get will have certain things there breed is predispostioned to. Yorkies have the luxating patella, collapsed trachea, things like that. Its different for different breeds. While I think you will be more apt to experience those things with dogs from puppy mills/pet stores, I think you can also experience them from breeders just because of the nature of the breed. You will be more likely to end up with emotional issues with the puppy mill/pet store/resuce dog, but if you work at it, you can get through those. Don't let the negative things sway you, just know it takes effort and time and lots and lots of love! But, oh my goodness, the payback is sooooooooooo worth it!!!!

| Hi, and welcome to yorkietalk!!! I have a Yorkie who is 5 years old. This is my first time having a small dog...my last dog was a Golden, but that was 20 years ago. There are a lot of good reason to have a Yorkie, but you do have to be careful because of their size. It is so east to spoil them because they are sooooooooo cute, and if you are an empty nester, you might tend to spoil them more. With a small dog, you do have to be very careful, about everything...dental care, collars (harnesses are better with a leash),temp.,food and vacs, to name a few. "yorkie mad" sounds a lot like me. Our lives have been changed, for the better. It's like having a baby again. Enjoy your new baby.

♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | Also I must add to this because I believe my Tia has given my 14year old border collie Jessie the will to live longer ,which makes her extra precious. You see Jessie had been totally healthy all her life up until last Sept when she had 5 non cancerous(thank god) lumps removed. We nearly lost her in surgery then and that's when I decided I couldn't live without that rewarding friendship that only a dog can offer. One month later Jessie had a stroke and the vet said she wont make a full recovery.Unfortunately the day of the stroke I was to take a look at Tia. I was in two minds what to do. I felt I was deceiving Jessie by doing this.I talked to the vet about it (actually cried) when he was at my house treating Jess and he told me it would be the best thing for Jess to have a pup around.Well a big thank you to you Mr.Hutton because for giving me those reassuring words I did get Tia that evening and Jessie and Tia are best friends. The vet cant believe the recovery she has made .So my furbaby has saved my Jess and me. |

| Welcome to yorkietalk, If you stay on Yorkietalk you don't have a thing to worry about. Everything I learned about my four yorkies I learned here. These people are wonderful. I have a 3-1/2 pound Molliemae, a 5 lb. Abbi Rose and her two puppies. I was a mental case when Abbi had her puppies, but now they are the cutest little things and I love them to pieces. My yorkies aren't as fragile as I thought they were when I first got my first one. They think they are tough. Now that I have the two puppies I don't want to get rid of them. I have one little boy and a tiny little girl. They are both very small. I just adore them. They will be eight weeks old tomorrow. It's like having babies in the house. Like I said, the people here on yorkietalk are just wonderful and you have so many things to read and learn about yorkies. A lot of this applies to other dogs as well. Love your little Molly and try not to worry too much. I did and it will drive you nutz. Now, I am calmer and with the help of this site my dogs are healthy and aren't show yorkies but they are to me. God bless. Jan |

| I haven't had any major health issues with Jackson yet, and I like the fact that he is bigger and not so fragile. He's already nearly 9 pounds at 15 weeks. I see the smaller ones with more of the health issues, honestly. But, every breed comes with different problems that could arise is the way I look at it.

| I haven't ever had any problems with my yorkie...He is a larger one (16 lbs) and so that might be why he doesn't have health problems, etc. I wouldn't trade him for the world. I think it's kind of funny, but my DH one time said, you give more love to Jack (our yorkie) than you do me when you get home. I said, well maybe if you got as excited as Jack does when I get home maybe I would give you more love too LOL!
