| Interesting Question I jumped down to the breeder section, but I thought I would ask here as well.... I have heard and know all about AKC and CKC but what does NCP registered mean exactly? Just thought if anyone else had seen or heard of it. We were browsing a breeder's site and I noticed all the pups were NCP Registered. Barbi

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I never heard of NCP. I have to say if I wanted and cared that a dog was papered it would have to be AKC only. A lot of these other registries (CKC, APRI) I think are a bit less stringent in their requirements.

| I found an NCA, but no NCP. The NCA even registers rescues and mixed breeds! National Canine Association The AKC is the only registry worth anything IMO. The other "alternative" registries are just a waste of money as there is no guarantee your dog is even purebred. |

| Or fifteen! Can you believe they charge $15 to register a dog with them? |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Anyone can make up a registry, having a registered dog means nothing, although in the past with only the AKC registry, it meant that the dog was a certified pureblood. A good breeder will study pedigrees when adding a new dog to their line, it helps them look for certain qualities that a particular line has to improve their own line. This really can't be done with any of the other registries because no proof is needed to register the dog. So a registry is really like a huge family tree, with a pedigree being a smaller family tree.

| Well I sent of for some information to a breeder and this was the reply they sent me. " Hi. NCP is National Certified Pedigree. Its a newer registration. But its really nice because you get a pedigree with the dog right with the papers. Its just a different registration than the CKC or AKC.
