| Yorkies and babies? Some questions... Hola! So just got it confirmed today that I'm bout to have a baby By "bout "I mean that I will in like 8 months. So has anyone had any issues with their yorkies and children brought in after the dog? Walker is about 6 months and will be neutered soon enough. He's not horrible or anything btu is obviously still a puppy. I know we still have plenty of time, but my husband will probably be deploying around the time of the birth and I would like to be as prepared for any problems that might arrise as I can be. Anything I could do to ease the transition for Walker? Or is it just sort of a crap shot of sometimes it works out well and other times it doesn't? Thanks guys |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Well, congratulations, we have lots of young mothers who will be able to give you some good advice. I think it would be good if you gave him as much training as possible. It's important that he never sees himself as the pack leader and in charge of protecting the pack. Now that Joey's 2 ½ he is really a good dog, we have spent many hours training, so I don't know if it's due to that, or just maturity, probably both. I think I would be tempted to find a book on preventing jealousy. Best of luck.

| Congrats on the baby! BTW, Walker will ALSO be 8 months older, and hopefully a little calmer, too. When I was pregnant with my daughter (eons ago!), my dog would lay on the couch with his head in my lap. Later, he'd put his head on my belly. When the baby moved, he'd *loooook* at my belly, totally confused. But a lot of the time he'd look like he was listening. When I brought her home, he KNEW her. He protected her to the day we had to send him to the rainbow bridge when he was 10. I don't know if it was a fluke or what, but maybe if Walker has the opportunity to "spend time" with the baby before s/he's born, maybe it will make it easier? |

Congrats on the baby!

| haha. That's what I'm hoping for, but you here all those horror stories about dog's starting all sorts of awful behavior once baby arrives. The last thing I need is to be in another country, alone, with a new baby, AND a dog that's taken it upon himself to pee on my furniture etc. |

| I want to show you some pictures.... Gypsy checking out the bump... this happened often and she was so interested. My mum's yorkie Ellie and my girl Gypsy meeting Amelia for the first time at 2days old when she came home. Gypsy helping out as much as possible Catching a nap alongside Amelia (Amelia is laid on the sofa and I was at the side of her the entire time, she was not left alone with Gypsy for any period of time - I can't believe I even have to say that but I know there will be comments otherwise) You can see the photos alot clearer when you click on them. I put several together for each one which is why they look so small on the post, click and you'll see what I mean.

| Thanks Nancy. I have 100s of photos like that because Gypsy literally can not get enough of her. Even a year later she is constantly bringing her toys, playing tug-a-war with her, balancing on her back legs to give her kisses when she's stood up. They are so cute with each other.

I agree with the tummy sniffing... I think it lets them bond with the baby and softens the blow for the changes.

| Okay, I have personally never had any problems except for ONE dog. But he bites everyone. And he is kept in his own room. He is the only dog without free roam. But all 9 other dogs come and go as they please, and even spend supervised playtime with the daycare children. |
