| with other dogs I have my little 13 wk old yorkie puppy, Daisy, who weighs 2lbs. and my German Shepherd mix, Sampson, who weighs 56 lbs. Until now we have limited their interaction because of the size difference. We have started them on supervised visits with each other but she is so frisky with him it makes me nervous. He has swatted at her with his paw a few times, once he even rolled her over. She just won't get out of his face! Even nips at his tail and legs! Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks! Cheryl |

| I've no experience with this type of size difference, but if it was me, I would have the GS on a leash and right beside me anytime they were together. A 13wk old puppy has no idea that it can be hurt and most Yorkies are fearless at this age. You need to be sure that your puppy doesn't bully your GS, as puppies can have a tendency to do and you need to be very sure that your GS doesn't accidently hurt your Yorkie with his play. All that said, I would love to see pictures of both your babies!

| I have to learn how to do pictures or have my 13 yr. old show me! We hold his collar while this is going on and it only lasts about 30 seconds if that becasue she starts nipping so we remove her. They are fine visitng through the x-pen "wall". He does move very gently towards her but it makes me very nervous!! My vet said not to use the leash since some dogs will have leash aggression and he may feel cornered if he is on it. She just wants at him in the worst way! |

| I do have experience with this....My little Tulip is 2 lbs 4 oz...and we have a large mix dog named Dakota...she weighs about 90 lbs! She has never hurt Tulip...or come close to it..they absolutely love each other.....Dakota already had experience with our other yorkie Daizy...and she's always been gentle with her. However your baby is very young...and I agree you should put your GS on a leash...that way you can allow them to interact a certain amount...and see how they do together...if you are worried that your GS is going to play too rough you can pull him/her back. Dakota seems to understand about the size and that Tulip is a pup...I think dogs do sense that...but until you are sure how they will do together I would make sure to have your dog on a leash. But I do think you need to allow them to interact together...so that they can get to know each other. Since they are in the same Pack! Good luck! Can't wait to see pics!

| They'll probably be fine together esp if you know that your GS has been good with other dogs ..... but to be on the safe side keep their interaction supervised until your puppy is a little older With little ones like that all it takes is one bite

| I have experience with a 5 lb. puppy and a 30 lb. spaniel. The spaniel just batted the puppy with its paw, playfully, and it dislocated the puppy's shoulder and he was in a cast for 6 weeks. They were good friends, but because of the size difference learning to play together took some time.

| That is exactly what I am afraid of! Even if he is on a leash, which I was advised not to do by my vet, I still can't control his every move. All it takes is one playful swat and she will be in trouble. He approaches her very relaxed, she is the little instigator!!! |

| Let me tell you a story. My neighbor who only has grown children bought a puppy from me. She was about 16 weeks when her daughter brought her lab to visit. This lab is good with children and other dogs so they weren't concerned. They also kept her leash on and took them out into the yard to play. They were rolling a ball for the lab to get and the puppy ran over to try to play also. The lab grabbed for the ball and bit through the puppy's jugular vein. She was dead within minutes. No time to take her to the vet even. It only takes common sense to realize that such a size difference can be an accident waiting to happen. This dog was not vicous it was an accident but wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry |

| This is why I have been limiting them and doing it very slowly. It is just getting difficult keeping them in two separate parts of the house but safety first! You just never know with animals. I think I will have cable installed in the puppy's room so at least I can watch TV!!! For now, I am going to stick with what is comfortable for me which is visiting through the x-pen with me in the room, or her in her crate in the living room. It just makes me so nervous with them both loose in the same room. She just gets overly excited! Even when I hold her face to face with him, she gets all squirmy to get at him! I need to find her another puppy her size to play with. |
