I Love Thor Donating Member | Lifting leg (and peeing) inside!!! OK so I need some major advise here. My Thor, five months, almost 6 months, has in the last few days started lifting his leg on things INSIDE and peeing! He recently descovered this wonderful new way to pee, and he really has been enjoying it. It is very cute OUTSIDE, but for example, last night when we were at my neigbors house (and they don't have any dogs) and when noone was looking he lifted his leg and peed on the side of the couch. Then last night, when we were asleep, he jumped down from the bed, and lefted that darn leg on the side of the bed and peed there!! Last week he lift his leg at my mothers office one a pole, and on the stair case banister. His potty training had been doing so well, and I finally thought that we were almost there and now this...is very dissapointing. One of my girlfriends suggested that this is a territorial thing and it would be better when he get nuetered?...Any suggestions welcome, please give me your input. Thanks to every, you guys always have so many helpful ticks, and info for a newbie like myself!! |

| ya sorry to tell you but hes marking ... some yorkies do this... but i fortunately *knocking on wood* havent experienced this... he does lift his leg when he pees inside and out. but hes wee wee pad trained and only pees on his wee wee pad in the house. now when we are outside he marks everytime lol one solution is to get him neutered and ur coming to the right age .. 6+months.

I Love Thor Donating Member | So if I wait too long this could be a 'forever' problem? Ekkk! I'm getting scared! And so that is to say that neutering will help this problem? And also, when he does this should I tell him no? Thanks... Hannah |

| Definitely consider getting him neutered as soon as possible to see if this helps. He is maturing and it does seem to sound like he is marking so you want to nip that in the butt quickly. If you neuter him and he still does it invest in some belly bands it will save you major frustration and embarrassment especially when you are visiting others with him.

| Some people use a little squirt bottle for this. You can also try using a belly band with him until you get him neutered. |

| Sooner the better... If you wait too long to get him neutered he still may lift his leg when he pee's and he may still mark. My sister's dog Mickey is neutered (Vet told her it would stop him from peeing when he gets excited or scared) she waited til he was about 2 yrs and he still lifts his leg and marks everywhere he goes when he's outside and he still pees when he gets excited or scared . Choppi was starting to lift his leg and "marking" and was getting agressive with our other dogs and so we got him neutered in July he was just about a week or so shy of being a yr old. And now he no longer marks or lift his legs. He does the cute squat thing. Hope that helps....

I Love Thor Donating Member | Daisy's Mom, Thanks, that is really reasuring! I am a college student and so I am saving to have him fixed ASAP, but I might not be able to for another month or so. I was starting to get really scared but now I feel that there is still hope! Thanks also to EVERYONE! This site is really the best thing ever! I love hearing what everyone has to say. Hannah |

| Hannah Good luck and if you catch him lifting his leg, you can try pushing his leg down and saying no. But that only works if you catch them in the act. Keep us posted!

Yes, having him neutered will help very much. I know that its hard to save, but check with your vet and see if they would be willing to do a payment plan. I know my vets office is willing to do that. I think as llong as you have some money to put down. Oh and by the way--I too lave his name!!!! Very cute!!!!!!

| Yes Mac marked inside the house until he was neutered he has since stopped. One thing I did that seemed to help was make him his own "fire Hydrant". I filled an empty soda bottle with water and then drapped a pee pad over it. Also had a pee pad under it. He actually enjoyed having his own person inside hydrant.
