| Adjusting to a new family member. Hello all, I am new to YT but I am loving it, I am so happy I found this website! I have always loved this breed and when my Mom bought her first Yorkie a couple of years ago I knew I had to have one for my own. So that is exactly what I did My first Yorkie (his name is Shiloh), is about 2 years old and I have recently brought home a new baby sister for him (her name is Lorelei) and my little man is having a little trouble adjusting I'm afraid. He has never been physically aggressive with her, but he growls at her when she gets too close to him and runs away from her! This behavior has me completely baffled as he has always gotten along with my Mom's pups. My mom's second Yorkie was purchased after Shiloh was about a year old and Shiloh was a little skittish around him at first but was well over it after just a few days. He seems to be taking much longer to warm up to Lorelei, is this normal? Anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to help ease the transition for my babies? I have made sure that I pay lots of attention to Shiloh so he doesn't feel out. They even have separate food and water bowls/toys/blankies etc so they don't have to compete. Please help! I really want my babies to get along and become friends. Thanks so much in advance for all your help! |

| Just give them a little more time and keep doing what your doing. Mine have been together 4 yrs and they will still have times when one will growl at the other out of jealousy. Play with them together and take them on walks together also.

| He's not liking having to share his attention and his possessions with this new interloper You need to make him see that good things happen when the puppy is around Giving him attention by himself is only cementing the fact that he will have to SHARE you When you play with the puppy include him Bring the puppy into the room and give him lots of treats and when he's being "nice" keep telling him what a good boy he is

| Keep going the way you are, it will work out. My Zeke, was 5 years old when we brought 13 week Baxter home. Zeke came to the kitchen we said HAPPY BIRTHDAY bubby, here is a new brother. Zeke growled, and went into the other room. It took Zeke 3months!!!! to come into the same room as the puppy! AND when he finally did, he refused to look at baxter. I could imagine any dog being so stubborn. Well to the end of the story, tomorrow, that will have been a year, and not Zeke is when ever Baxter is touched or talked to, he has to be right in there. If Bax gets any attention, Zeke needs to be on your lap also, A little hard when he is 23lbs, and Bax is 10 ( yes he is a teacup LOL) so not we just call Zeke mr GreenJeans lol. Now I am not suggesting it will take a year. I thing zeke was the acception, but it will get better. I PROMISE. Just hang in there.

| Welcome to YT! Time & patience sprinkled with lots of love. They will become best friends. Part of this is Shiloh letting her know who the boss is

| Sometimes you need to take both of them out for long walks together. Getting the alpha out of his/her house is helpful in getting them to relax and be responsive to each other.

| Welcome to YT. You're young man may be trying to establish his Alpha position. Give them some time, and they'll come around. The idea of taking them for walks together is a great one.
