| Good breed companions for Yorkies? I just got my little girl Lola in December, and already I think I would feel better about having to leave her home alone during the day () if she had another dog to be with. I probably won't introduce another puppy to our home until she's at least a year old (October of 2009), but I'm thinking about maybe another yorkie or perhaps a pomeranian. Has anyone had experience introducing another dog to their home at around 1 year? Any suggestions for male vs. female, breed, etc.? I'm a yorkie newbie, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

| You can NEVER have too many yorkies, I would go with another yorkie female, or a small maltese or better yet, a Biewer, they sure are beautiful and so much like a yorkie, with the white & beauty of a maltese. Just my opinion.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I have Biewers, a Yorkie and a Havanese that all play well together. I think the most important piece is giving each dog their own space and realize that it might take a little while for each dog to become best friends and to be very patient. I think the younger the dog is the more accepting of a new addition to the house. |

| We have a 22-mo-old yorkie. She is four lbs., and just the tiniest, sweetest dog ever. Our other dog is a 2yr old longhaired dachshund female. They get along really well. |

| I have a 3 year old yorkie. My cousin has a 1 year old female shih tzu, and my aunt and uncle have a 3 year old male shih tzu and a 1 year old male lorkie (lhasa apso/yorkie mix). Sapphire gets along great with the female shih tzu, but not so well with the males. I think it's because they tried mounting her. She was fine with them until that.

I'm very interested to hear from those with doxies! Thor is very interested in other dogs, but uncomfortable if they are bigger than him. Since he is 3 #s, that's a lot of uncomfortable-making dogs. However, I noticed that he got along really well with some daschunds in the park. I think it was because even though they weighed more than him, their heads were still low to the ground. I have always wanted a short-haired daschund, though I've heard they are not the healthiest breed? I won't get another dog for at least 6 months because Thor still needs some time to adjust. I would love to get him a buddy though. Also, given his age, size, and temperament, if I were to get another yorkie, it would be a tiny female puppy, and I would prefer not to shell out the kind of cash that would require. With a daschund, I would be less worried about it growing up to be bigger than Thor, though I would still want a young female. | |

I don't have a daschund but I love them....I would get a smaller one so they will have less of a chance of having back problems. I think when they are bigger they have a lot of back problems that the smaller ones don't have. I've always wanted a long hair one!
